The first time I saw this 22 rifle, I knew I wanted one...and that was back in 2013. With the very fresh passing of my cat, I thought now might be a good time to get one before they stopped production. I have always had a fascination with history, and the STG 44 is a very iconic weapon from WW2, most noticeably being the first or second assault rifle ever made (I think the Russians may have beaten the Germans first). With that said, the Germans did make the blueprint for all future assault rifles with this iconic rifle.
My copy is not a first production run...which came out in 2012. That one came with a nice wooden crate mimicking the crate the real rifles came in. However, the packaging is still very nice.
Once you open the package, you can see that the rifle comes in 2 parts, held together by a large pin with a spring clip to prevent it from backing out once installed.
Inside the box along with the rifle and one magazine you get an owner's manual, a registration card, a snap cap and chamber flag, A padlock, a sticker, and a cleaning brush and small hex key.
This copy of the STG 44 also features a super easy to use safety.
That large textured circle is the magazine release.
The magazines I have are 25 rounds. There is also a 10 round magazine available for those areas where more is illegal. There is a spring loaded button that makes loading them very easy.
The 25 round magazines are long.
The iron sights consist of a rear ramp with windage adjustment. The front sight is fixed and well protected.
There is a dust cover over the ejection port. This will open when the bolt is charged, or you can just pop it open manually .
I haven't taken it to the range yet. I do like the historical significance of this as well as it shoots .22LR which are plentiful and cheap.
