Frost mora
on: July 11, 2008, 10:48:21 PM
Picked up a frost mora today, only $12! Come in all sorts of colors, yellow, black, blue, red, green. It's virtually the same size as grohmann #1, doesn't look as good as grohmann, but doesn't have the price tag either. Handle and sheath are made of mold injected plastic, it's thicker than grohmann so more comfortable in hand, although still a little too short. Blade is made of 12c27 steel, which should be better grohmann's 1.4116, I'll see how well it holds up in use.

Spork who did those awesome kydex sheaths?  A SAK, a firesteel, and the knife and it doesn't look "big".

I can't decide, if I could do work like that if I would save money by doing my own work or if I would spend more because I could have so many nice knives. I suppose I would spend the same either way because there is only so much money to spend, but if I could do my own work I could have more of them.

Very nice SporK.

I went back and bought another green one.  ::) Would've bought all 5 colors if I had the money lol.

The green one is marked as mora of sweden, whereas blue one is marked as frost mora, must be left over old stock.

What he said  :D I've got an mora lyiong around somewhere but i don't use it nearly as often as i would like -they're the perfect knife for taking hiking but i'm too wary of the knife laws to take it anywhere that's not private propery.

Frosts of Mora stamp 'em Frosts. I believe the one marked Mora of Sweden is a K.J. Erikkson or whatever. I can't spell it, rather, I'm too lazy to look up how it was spelled.

Anyhow, pretty much the same knife. They mirror each other for a lot of things, with slight design differences. Most of my Erikksons have somewhat beefier handles. And it seems the finish of my Frosts knives may be a bit better.
Got those frog legs.

Pretty sure they've now merged into one company mora of sweden.

Ah... yes... I do recall that...

Well, there's a lot of leftover knives with Frost stamped across 'em. A looot.

Most of the retailers I use still seperate them out to K.J. Eriksson and Frosts.

For some reason the mora of sweden stamp is clearer than frost mora. Frost mora stamping seems to be dragged to the right and is pretty blurry. You can probably see that in my first picture.

For comparisson...

I have here a carbon steel Mora of Sweden Tradesman, and a stainless steel Frosts Viking.
They're supposedly the same model. Almost.

Same handle, same blade, same sheath. Almost.

The Tradesman has a much more secure sheath, probably due in part to the beefier handle.
The stamp is much darker and well centered, and has a ruler on the other side.
However, there was a lot of plastic gunk left over all over the handle parts from the molding.

The Viking was a lot cleaner, but I don't like the grip as much. It's rather flat instead of filling in the center of the hand.
The Frost stamp does seem to drag a bit to the side. The sheath sort of makes me nervous but should do fine.

EDIT: I don't think I've gotten enough Moras to make a general comparisson though.
EDIT2: And I think I'm starting to become a fan of the stainless over the carbon... haven't tried laminated yet!

EDIT3: Oh yeah... and no matter the model, you can't go wrong with a Mora! My only regret is only having seven or so...
