This dang thread should be getting a commission from Mora. I had never heard of Mora before this, and now I *must* have one too!

I spent the whole night reading up on Scandis, etc. because of those pics. Damn you!  :D

I had no idea multitools were just some sort of "gateway gear" that led to flashlight, knife, bag, etc. addictions...

The same thing happened to me mate.  Multi's expanded into SAK's, then flashlights and then fixed blades.  Then you have all the other bits as well, watches, compasses, it's a sure fire way of emptying your wallet.  :D

Ha! I actually went against traffic with this one. I ended EDCing too many gadgets and different gear so I tried to slim down by branching into multitools. :multi:

Probably don't want 'em. I really... abuse them. I have to buy two of everything so I can "carry" AKA abuse one and put the other in storage for when I eventually break it.

Thanks for the tutorial Dave.  I'd really like to have a go at making my own.  Anyone recommend a UK supplier?

I'm even worse about buying mulitiple copies.

When I find an EDC, outdoors, survival type item (knife, flashlight, etc.) that has proved itself and that I really like, then I'll usually get 2, 3, or more copies.  One for EDC, one for the rucksack, one for the car, and one held in reserve.

I'd prefer to own 4 copies of a reasonably priced knife of decent quality, rather than 1 expensive knife of exceptional quality.  What good is a knife that I hesitate to carry and use hard for fear of breakage or loss?

SAKs, Moras, and Opinels are perfect knives for owning multiple copies.

I want one of those.  I like the fact they do some slightly eccentric versions but that's about the only one I'd really use.

Not in stores that I know of, but a guy in u.s. sells variety of mora (and other scandi knives). I think he ships worldwide.

I'm sure I found an EU site that shipped over here pretty cheap. They had the normal ones and stuff like the electrician and diver versions. Did I do anything useful like bookmark it...  :-[

Yeah micky d, but the crux of the matter is what is "reasonably priced" and what is "expensive."

On various forums I've seen pics from people showing 5 or more copies of the same model Spyderco (except maybe with different color scales.)

For me, most Spyderco knives count as expensive items that I'd be somewhat hesitant to EDC, much less buy 6 copies.

For other people, Spydercos are just low-end, mass-produced knives - barely the minimum level of quality acceptable for an EDC item.

.

I've got a rough rule of thumb, if it's a folder costing more than £50 I probably won't use it, if it's a fixed blade costing over £100 I won't use that either :)
