Believe me — when you're on the top of a mountain in the dark, and the only light you have to find your way back to camp is the Indiglo light on your Timex, you learn to appreciate even the worst of flashlights in a hurry.

Besides, even a piddly light will do when surreptitiously trying to read under the covers.

True. I've used the light off of a Casio Illuminator (one of those where the whole dial lights up) as a source of light to find keys a friend dropped in the grass. This was many years ago when I didn't carry a flashlight (or three) every day and didn't even have a cell phone back then.

Sometimes Vic SAKs and Swisstools can provide extra leverage or better grip by extending one additional implement (see what I did there?). I find that very useful.

Bottle opener, helps get a better grip, much more leverage and control of the tip using the knife blade. This is only true up to 5 layers (think 91mm Ranger) after that this effect dissipates. There may be more applications but I haven't studied a SAK with more than the Vic Handyman's 6 layers.

The hook, it's very helpful combined with the scissors, impoving greatly the ability to manipulate them. Its usefulness certainly isn't limited to that, a very nice addition in my opinion. Haters gonna hate.

Can opener, same fuction as the bottle opener only for the wood saw and the metal saw/file, less comfortable but it works.

Swisstool handles, extended fully or at an angle can turn the tool into an extention of one's arm. Caution is advised during this exercise.

I just got my first parcel hook on my new Climber, and never would have thought about half these things....I gotta try them out!  The 90kg pull ups added to my girth just might finish my poor hook though!

when cleaning a sak without water, fold a piece of heavy paper into a V shape and use it to scrape out the collected pocket gunk/lint

a quick water-free clean up

I hope this thread isn't dead as I just found it!

I was playing around with attachments this evening and discovered this tip to extend your reach with the Vic or Wenger pliers:

Fold out the inline Phillips (if you have it - can opener will work if you don't).

Slide a hex bit extender on to the handle of the pliers.

This will get you about 2 inches of extra reach.

(For the Vic pliers, I found this works better if I push the pliers spring to the side.)

Great necro and cool tip 

I haven't really found many of these, but things I like/do:

-I prefer Leatherman tweezer in general becaure of the slanted tip, I carry a set from a Style PS in my MiniChamp, it looks kinda neat and is still quick and easy to retrieve regardless of the lack of plastic nub.

-For general cleaning I just use the toothpick/minidriver to scrape lighting in the backsprings from time to time. Doing it somewhat regularly stops the tool getting too grotty to warrant a full clean from EDC.

-When using the MiniChamp's pen the recommended tool to extend is the nail cleaning tool, but I've found it more comfortable to use the combo tool. It's meatier and a little chamfered on the edges, it's more comfortable imo

-The file on the Compact's hook makes a fantastic and intuitive striking surface for strike anywhere matches, I imagine any of the files would do the job too

I stick the pen into the beak of the small pliers at a 90 degree angle, works well too.

Desk lamp for Voyager lite and Traveler lite

Bringing back another old post...

Several people said the lights on the Voyager and Traveler aren't that good. I don't have either so can't say.

But a Photon Micro Light held in the pliers is plenty bright.

Or, I've got a couple of small rare earth magnets stuck to the back of the Micro Light so I can adjust the angle however I need.
