If that wasn't intended then I'm sure that thing is going to be rare as smurf my man. Thanks for sharing that is pretty dang cool, hopefully someone knows for sure if it is supposed to be that way.

The Michel Jordi Victorinox has a Golden Corkscrew. Maybe they put in one of those by mistake:

Neat find!   :tu:

As Corwyn mentioned, the Michel Jordis had a gold corkscrew.  Also a gold key ring.

Very neat, contact Vic and ask? It looks sweet with the gold corkscrew.

The Michel Jordi Victorinox has a Golden Corkscrew. Maybe they put in one of those by mistake:

My guess would be that you're correct that the corkscrew is from the Jordi, but that it wasn't a mistake. I've seen before where Victorinox will make a run of special models and then "regular" versions that look similar pop up. In this case, the Jordi Climber they made around 1999 or so. I have a Climber (Traveller, actually) that looks exactly like the 1891-1991 Anniversary knife (including serial number on the liner) but doesn't have the blade etching or special scales.

The following is speculation:

Let's say you've been asked to make 1000 Jordi Climbers. Well, there's going to be a certain number of those that fail QC - this is just statistics and I'm sure Victorinox knows on average what that number is. Say they have an average 1% defect rate, which is quite low. That means that there will be an average of 10 knives from this run that fail QC. Well, it's easier to make extras while all of the tooling is set up than it is to go back and make 10 more knives, so that's what they do. Instead of making 1000 knives for the order, they make 1020. Get through QC, 10 fail and are replaced with 10 of the "extra". Well, now you have 10 extra Jordi knives - what do you do with them? Throw them away? Of course not. Skip the laser etching on the blade, slap a set of standard scales on them, box them up and sell them as regular knives.

It does not surprise me. The cork screw would be used on cork, it wouldn't be subjected to a use that would damage it (either if it's just coating or if it's solid gold). It would last longer than any other tool.

I am sure this is the case Victorinox are a wonderful example of letting nothing go to waste :)

Ok one more question ......what to do with it ..... its a brand new knife and looks nothing special from the front so its not going to make the collection in a blister pack .
So do I ....

  • Open it and show off the shiny corkscrew
  • Keep it in its packaging and put it away in a box it may be worth something one day

I would personally keep it in the package for the collection, but that's just my sick OCD about NIB stuff.

 I'd probably keep it in the blister pack to show it was bought with that corkscrew, that it isn't a mod.

I know what you mean - I remember them doing similar with the main blades of the Alox Soldiers which they reused for the civilian versions.

Not a fan of NIB myself (especially when in plastic). I keep my knives to turn around and photograph, and fondle, and touch and play with. I don't see the point in keeping a blister pack. You could just as well get a painting instead (do note I keep all the boxes though).

Make an exception and keep this one in its blister packaging. :)

Another vote here for keeping it in the blister pack (because it is an odd-ball)  :)

Were it me, I'd open it. I never keep knives in blister packs. One of the things I love most about SAK collecting is being able to take the knives out, look at them, etc.
