Anyone still have their very first SAK ever bought?
on: December 02, 2014, 01:52:12 AM
I still have my very first SAK I bought as a 10 year old back in 1980 at Hymans Sporting goods, I carried this everywhere, my initials are scraped into the handle which adds character to it if you ask me! The leather belt clip has been on this ever since my Great Grandmother gave it to me so I wouldnt lose it, I still rember snapping it to my pants belt loop just about everyday as a kid.

Im new here but wanted to share my story about my very first Swiss Army knife

In a way, yes. But only parts of it. ;)

My first one was a Wenger Commander variant (Snife) and as I was a kid, I abused it a lot so some of the tools, knife, bottle opener, broke.

I still kept it for years and used some of the parts of it and the scales in my first Wenger mod.

Cool story and welcome to the forum :multi:.

I still have my first SAK. It's a Vic Ranger. I got it because it matched the one my Dad carried in the military. It still sees use although not as much as it used to.

Yes, I still have my first SAK - a Spartan from the early 90s.  I bought it when working in a hardware store when I was a teenager - got a good discount on tools from them, but not a good enough discount to buy the Swiss Champ.  Doesn't get much use now, but it's definitely a keeper.  I think I carried it most of the time when at school and university, and until I discovered the Skeletool back in 2008.

Yup, a Wenger bought some time in the eighties. I don't carry it, though, but I carried it for something like 15 years. It pretty much became a part of me. Ironically, the experiences from that knife is why I prefer Vic today. (Sorry, knifey, you're still loved. :) )

Yes, still have my Champion that I got in the mid 70's when I was doing a lot of backpacking, hiking and camping along the Appalachian Trail.

Bought a Champion in '72 - '73. Carried it on backpacking trips, traveling abroad and along with a Pioneer, EDC'd it until 2003. The Champion was lost (along w/ 99% of my collection) in an '06 wildfire.

My first Pioneer was taken out my Victorinox store stock in '83 and carried daily till the mid 2000's. I had forgotten it in my truck toolbox and it was my only SAK after the fire.

Here it is on top of some fixed blades lost in the fire.

Yes, in parts though. My daily carry still uses the original LED&pen scales of my first. And the other parts live on in other mods.

I do and its only 14 years old.
The one before that was my only SAK given to my by my father from his trip to Switzerland. Lost it and replaced it with the same model when I fly through there in 2000.

I had one just like your picture. Some horrible bar steward nicked it about 20 years ago. I loved that knife, it went everywhere with me.

My first was an Explorer my dad brought back from a trip to Switzerland in the mid-80's. He also gave me a Classic he had carried for some time before that because he bought a new one on his trip. Both are stashed in my safe and will be given to my son at such time as he is mature enough to appreciate the provenance of them.

I still have mine, a Vic Executive.  Not too hard since I only got it a couple years ago.  I don't carry it anymore, but it was the SAK that got me started, and will have that special place in my mind.

I bought my first SAK in 1994 in Schaffhausen, Switzerland. It's a black Classic. All I could afford at this time. After a long time on the shelf it got (last year) a new life on the keychain of my better half.

I have the first SAK I ever owned, but didn't buy it. It was a gift from Jersey Devil, a Tinker.

I am straining REALLY hard to remember what the first one I BOUGHT was, and I'm coming up blank.

MAYBE the Farmer? Dunno.

I really feel like my brain is turning to pudding on this. It was only a couple years ago.

Probably have some earlier SAKs that I bought as gifts for my Dad, and which he returned when I started collecting them.

However this is the oldest user I still have; an Economy Spartan, picked up on a trip to Switzerland in the early 1990s.
