Wenger old style scissors design

This is the Master Fisherman from the early 1970s just before Wenger made major changes in their designs like the scissors and can opener.  This one still had the old-style scissors spring similar to the Victorinox design.
I would like to know what prompted them to changed to the lever-type design, would be an interesting story.

A 1976 Backpacker magazine ad reads the new spring in Wenger surgical style scissors does not fall out or break.  This is in comparison to the springs of Brand X.  What is brand x?
