Victorinox SwissTool Spirit Butter blade
on: January 06, 2015, 09:33:54 PM
I´m about to pull the trigger on the spirit multi tool.
Between the choices for blade I´m intrigued by the "Butter blade" version.
I will always accompany the tool with a plain blade SAK or other, so I figure a serrated sheep foot might be handy.
My fear is if I´ll be able to maintain the serrated edge.
I have the Sharpmaker from Spyderco, that should be able to sharpen serrated edges.
However I have no experience and my question is:
Does anyone have experience with sharpening this blade? Using the sharpmaker - will I actually touch the edge if I use the 20 degree angle?

The Sharpmaker will work great.

Sharpening serrated blades is easier than people make it sound.

Good luck with the spirit Mex

If you are worried about the angle not being correct and not touching the edge you can always lean the blade in the proper direction to make it touch properly.

You guys reckon my Lansky kit with the 3 basic stones could handle serrated ok?

The basic flat Lansky stones did'nt work well on serrations. I use a Lanky dog bone.

The Victorinox pocket sharpener works well on serrated blades.  The oval shape of the rod makes it easy to fit exactly to the serrations to sharpen them evenly.

No. They are not designed for serrations. They sell a stone for the Lansky specifically for serrations.
