:D Bet a lot of you read that wrong.

Anyways, as some of you might know I sent in a couple of Bucks for service. The expected wait time can be up to two months so for the long wait I purchased a new 112 to hold me over. I wanted to see the quality of the new ones as well.

The Good

The Bad

Their is some discoloration on the bolsters. Not sure why. Possibly from being stored in the foam it comes in. Not a huge deal, but something I noticed.

Not a great picture to show what I am talking about, but the lock has a gap in relevance to the handle. You will notice it at 4-5 Oclock in the picture.

Most disappointing is the inside of the handle. It looks very rough and has some strange marks in their. The blade does not touch the inside handle so not sure what this is from. You will also notice the rivet on the top left of the picture is not quite finished.

All in all I am still very happy with the knife and will be carrying it quite often so we will see how she holds up.  :tu:

Overall still looks incredible. I have no clue how they stand in production without scratches on the brass.

I think that the middle rivet standing proud of the handle is normal, at least it is the same on my 112 made in the 80's.

What problem did the knife have that you had to send it in?

I know it is supposed to be taller than the others, but mine is only rounded on one side like it was not done properly. Its really not that noticeable though.

No problems. I sent in a old 110 and 112 for sharpening service since I heard they give it a "spa treatment" with the sharpening.

Forgot to mention. I found another issue with the new 112 I just got. I will explain with pictures later.

the consent seems to be that they do not make them like they used to, but they are still good for the money.

also, until a couple of years ago they use to mark seconds, but now they just sell them with no distinguishing mark, so it is easier to get a slightly faulty one

My anniversary edition 110 has a bit of uneven peening on the same rivet. But you really only notice if you look for it. They might not be the best, but for the prices they can be had at I can't see not having one around. They're rather pretty:D

About them not making them like they used to. I was under that impression as well and it is a shame as it is a trend I see in almost every single manufactured product made today. From Buck to Leatherman, to cars, and kids toys. Literally anything you can think of is of lesser quality than it was in the past. Not to mention more expensive. Its all about mass production at the lowest cost to yield the highest profit. It really is a shame.

As far as them not marking the seconds. I assume you mean products they find to not be up to par. My question is why would they even acknowledge them as seconds if they just sell them along with the rest. Makes no sense to me.

Basically, they used to mark seconds and sell them cheaply.

I got a couple and they have a marking on the blade showing that. The price was lower than the regular ones.

For some reason (There was a thread/mention in BF) they decided that if these seconds were good enough to sell (minor, non safety related issue), then they would not mark them, but still sell them cheaper. So the 1st buyer will know that they are not 100%  but whoever buys them next will not, unless the problem is obvious.

On mine I think the finish on the handles is not perfect, but then I think the same about nearly all knives..  :D

Ah ok. If they sold them cheaper then that is alright with me (Not that it matters).

Here is what I noticed last night. If you close the blade and let it snap closed this is what happens every single time.

:o That is not good...

Can you push it further in (and will it stay)?

 :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh

I don't generally care that much about cosmetic issues such as gaps along backspring, slight scale defects, steps between scales and bolsters, raised rivets, minor chips and scratches .... but that there is inexcusable and a complete deal breaker for me. That would be going back if it were mine

It will rest lower than that, but I have to manually push it in every time.  :(

I had this exact same problem on my paperstone 112, which granted is made a little differently, but after a while it worked itself out. Maybe the pivot loosened up a little or something. I kept mine in the belt sheath, so safety wasn't really an issue. If I had carried it in my pocket, that would have made me uneasy.

Sent from a very small screen.

May it be as the Pattern has chosen.

Regarding quality going down, you're right that it's everywhere. I have my moms pressure cooker she bought for herself when she graduated high school in 1968. It's still going strong when other various appliances have died or turned faulty in only a few years.

Great photos, as always Cap'n. :tu:

Another disappointing folder, I'd surely return or exchange that one. Darn the luck there Capt.
