Skeletool finish
on: March 03, 2018, 02:10:43 AM
So I just won an auction at the bay and now there is a SS Skeletool on it's way in the mail. And even though I haven't got it yet I'm thinking of doing something to the finish of it. The easiest would be to bead blast it at work or the second options is to get some chemicals and try acid etching(influenced by Sam Lim).
I'm thinking of doing the whole tool but I'm not sure what will be best/least damage to the tool.
Any suggestions/ideas from you guys?

If you decided to do it for the whole tool, I would think generally it would be ok. But you have to watch out for the joints, liner locks, pivot area. ie, all the parts that moves. There is a little chance that they may get a teeny bit looser after the dip as the acid will definitely eat away some material. You may want to protect them with nail polish or something similar.

:multi: I would love to see the effect on the whole tool.  :D

Have you done anything to the frame or is it just the blade you have acid dipped?

Ya. That's the actual colour/finish. Not light effect or filter. It's heated up lightly over stove. And then quick sanding down with coarse(for the texture)  then fine sandpaper.
