An alternative to the eneloops is the UniRoss Hybrio batteries. Like the eneloops they are NiMH rechargeables that you can charge up and then sit on the shelf /leave in your torch without them having self discharged in a fortnight.They are much easier to come by in the UK. Homebase did/are selling them but have them on clearance at the moment. I picked up four 2100mAh AA batteries and a charger for under a fiver!Neil
