Imperial Schrade SAK Question
on: February 09, 2015, 02:56:35 AM
I have a few of the SAK-a-likes from ISC (Imperial Schrade Company). They're made in Germany, and are part of their "Century" line. My question is, what's the hardness and steel of the blades / tools? They "feel" very similar to Victorinox as far as use and sharpening, but I don't know the steel designation or hardness.
This is gonna hurt...

I can't answer your question about the steel used in ISCs, but I have six or seven of the ISC SAK clones and IMHO they are on a par with Vic or Wenger.

ISC knives were made by Adler in (East) Germany. There was some discussion on here at one time about whether Victorinox licensed them, or they were merely knock-offs. One person claimed they were so close the handles would interchange; another said that wasn't true (different production periods?). Also various reports about whether or not Adler had been bought by Mikov of the Czech Republic. A lot of heat, but not much light.

None of the handle scales are interchangeable between my Vics and ISCs.

That is correct. The Vic/Wenger's are different lengths than the ISCs.
