Got a Buck Metro LED
on: July 21, 2008, 06:24:23 PM
Got the Buck Metro LED as an anniversary gift from my wife. It's been something I've been eyeing for a while.

It's much bigger than the pictures make it out to be. Will post pictures and thoughts soon. So far, like it.

arghhh... must post pics up soon before everyone gets wow-ed by nezza's staggering collection and ignores mine  >:( Consider mine the opening act :P Will take photos tonight (Asia time)

Anyway, was playing with it a little, and I think it's the smallest knife I've handled that's actually pretty efficient in opening with one hand. Granted, I don't have much experience with knives, so it could be just me being under-informed.

It might just be that the size of the handle makes it so much easier to deploy the blade :)

So here are the pics. I've put it beside a Micra for scale. I was thinking that it might make a good keychain tool, but as I found out, it's way too bulky to be put with keys. For me anyways.

Though the cut-out on the blade makes for easy one hand opening, it does feel a little sharp, which can be a little bit uncomfortable. When the liner engages, it hits the plastic part of the handle and gives quite a loud "thiak!" sound. Metal against plastic. I don't know if it's my set only, but it seems impossible to get the blade out without attracting some attention.

The single white LED is mediocre. I've had a Princeton Tec keychain light that was brighter than this. A little disappointed with that part.

The blade is really sharp out of the box. It has the word Taiwan printed on it quite clearly.

Hmm, it's a shame the ergonomics are a little off, as it looks a good little user :)

Well that's not good, the liner shouldn't move pass the blade, and there is nothing to hold it in place even if it did besides the plastic shell?

Hmm.. now that you mention it, it does sound quite dangerous. You are right, the plastic part does seem to be keeping the liner aligned with the blade. I'm traveling and didn't bring it along with me, shall observe it some more when I get home.
