Sharpening the serrated knife on the Wave?
on: July 22, 2008, 12:25:29 AM
Forgive me if this topic has been beat to death in the past, but I am looking for a good way to sharpen my serrated blade on my Wave? It isn't dull now, but I know as much as i use it, it will become dull eventually. I have been looki9ng at the spyderco sharpmaker, but I don't have the money for it right now. Is there a good ceramic or diamond rod I can use to sharpen it free hand? I know it may be a little harder, but I will get it. It took me a little while to learn to sharpen plain edge knives, but I can put a razors edge on one now. If so, can you let me know of how much a good diamond rod or ceramic rod would be? Thank you. :D

Those Lansky Dog Sticks are pretty good, as are the DMT ones (albeit at a much bigger price tag) :)

Sweet!! I just found on for about $7. That would be excellent for the big openings in the serrations. Will this also work for the smaller openings for the serrations as well?

The triangular one's are the best, as you can really get in to all the nooks and crannies found on a serrated edge :)

Question I have it, the serrated blade on the wave have smaller and wider crevices both. Will this stone fit between all the teeth?

The circular one probably can't, but triangular one will. If you don't want to spend $50 for spyderco sharpmaker lansky makes a pocket sized triangular stone (linked above) for $3 but you will have to control the angle yourself.

I use my Spyderco Tri-angle sharpener on ALL my serrated blades

And some condemned for a fault alone." -William Shakespeare, King Lear (1608), Act IV, scene 6, line 169
