Coolest SAK's in each size
on: February 22, 2015, 08:58:56 PM
What are your favorite or coolest SAK's in each size.  ( You don't have to own it)
I only did Victorinox but feel free to add some Wengers.

I will start with mine

58mm Manager

The manager incorporates what I think are the 4 most useful tools available on the 58mm line.
If you would rather have the toothpick than a pen you can always get the Rambler.

74mm Cigar Cutter

I do enjoy a good Cigar from time to time. I have not used this knife but it looks cool and pickings are slim in the 74mm catagory. My second choice is the Executive, I have that one but it has some tools I don't really use or need.

84mm Huntsman Small

An 84mm of one of my favorite 91mm knives? Yes please! I have yet to see this knife but I want it. Second place would go to eiter the Artisan or Cadet Plus.

85mm Evogrip S17

This is another knife I have. Some things I like some I don't. I do think it is a cool knife though. Although the lock is not my favorite, If you want a knife that is easy in the pocket and has a lock this is the one for you.

91mm Woodsman

This is a knife I want maybe more than any other. My problem is if I do find it do I carry it or leave it on a shelf. Very cool knife that I wish Vic would re-release.

93mm Farmer ...........doesn't need a pic or description.

100mm  125th Anniversary Heritage knife

A replica of the original soldier's knife. Very cool!

108mm GAK

A unique knife and the first of the 108mm knives which lead to the 111mm

111mm Outrider

111mm One Hand Trekker

This one was so tough for me I had to pick two. I love the toolset on the outrider. A good amount of tools but still managable for pocket carry. If the OHT had a similar toolset it would be the run away winner IMO.

130mm Rangergrip 79

I wish, I wish, I wish they would put this blade style and lock on the 111mm knives. Great knife and I like mine, but to large for me for pocket carry.

'You a SAKslut, too, eh?

58 --- alox Rambler
74 --- Moneyclip
84 --- Recruit
85 --- Evolution ST 17
91 --- :ahhh I repeat  :ahhh SOS Evacuate ship SOS Evacuate ship - You get it...
93 --- Pioneer
108 -- Solo
111 -- 2008 Soldier; Rucksack, Outrider

and

130 -- I'm very tempted by Ranger Grip 63, 79 or 58 Hunter.
105 -- Vic Spirit (two knife blades version). I think it justifies its name as it brings the SAK to its next stage of usefulness in a nearly perfect manner.

Hmm, just about all of my favorites are mod's, but I'll try and list stock models

58mm  Alox Rambler
74mm  Executive
84mm  Artisan
85mm  Evo ST 17
91mm  SwissChamp (just because)  but Ranger in reality
93mm  Electrician Plus but it would be Urban Pioneer  IF THEY MADE THE DAMN THING
95mm   Professional 1.71.31  almost a fav'  apart from me constantly wishing it was a 1.72.31 or that they included the awl on the 1.71.31 either way it remains a curiosity rather than a user.
100mm 1908 43 Elsener Soldier it's a favorite because I like carrying knives way older than me
108mm GAK  The quality is still there but because it feels a bit "plasticy" I don't mind beating up on it.
111mm Soldier it's my goto camp pocket knife or the Hercules for my backpack because it's not Silly-thick like a workchamp.
120mm Ranger 05  may replace the 111mm soldier on my next camping trip, but I fear it may not be as pocket friendly.

Of the sizes in which I dwell... :)

130mm --- Victorinox (Wenger) RangerGrip 78.
Great tool combination in a large SAK. I like the strong scissors and pliers available, but can not seem to get them mixed with a non serrated blade; one handed opening and a combo tool.

111mm --- Victorinox One Handed Trekker, Non-Serrated (black).
The ultimate mix of size and usability. Incredibly strong device; the multitool of dreams!

91mm --- Victorinox SwissChamp (blue).
A relatively large 91mm, but a marvel in the way it puts so much usefulness into such a small space.

85mm --- Victorinox (Wenger) EvoGrip S18.
Seems to be the 'sweet spot' of the old Wenger range, with plenty of usable tools in a small package. Not as perfect as the Victorinox equivalents in planning, fit and finish but has the lock blade.

58mm --- Victorinox Rambler.
It's got the essentials.

Have a few SAK's in other sizes but not enough to make a 'coolest' call! :) 93mm Farmer? 83mm Cadet? etc.

This is going on what I own.

58mm =  Manager
74mm  = Ambassador - I only own one
84mm = Sportsman
85mm = Evo grip S18
91mm = Toughest one to pick - I'd go with my hunter green Explorer
93mm = any Soldier, my 98 with keyring.
108mm = GAK
111mm side = Skipper  - I dig this big knife for its in-line Philips, pliers and shackle key.
111mm liner = Nomad with red dual density, loving the thinner one

Excellent idea for a thread. Love seeing some of the models you guys have picked.

Will think about this for a bit and get back with you. Seriously though 91mm is going to be a tough one.

Not surprised to see some love for the Syph mod 93mm's. Still shake my head about Vic not making a Urban Pioneer.

91mm oh how I hate thee. So many good choices for the bestest.

Explorer: 4 layer size perfection with the juicy inline Phillips. Where is your Saw and Metal file though?

Ranger/Astronaut: Still something that can be carried in your pocket but has all the tools ones could need. Except for pliers if you are maybe trying to leave your pliers based MT at home.

Craftsman: Astro with some pilers, what is not to like? Trying to carry this beast in your pocket that's what.

Yeah so about actually picking just one. Hmm let me think on it some more.  :pok:
