Modifying my Camo Charge Question
on: July 23, 2008, 04:14:25 PM
Hey Guys,

I bought the camo Charge a few months ago from  a close out sale at Cabellas. I absolutely love the tool. Some of the guys refer to it as my hunting knife due to the camo paint job so this got me thinking it may look pretty cool if I were to remove the paint leaving just the bare Titanium  finish. Anyone here done this? Any thoughts?

-Robert

Well, you can buy a XTi, Ti, or a TTi and have bare titanium handles.. But, I am not sure how one could take the camo right of the titanium..

It probably won't be easy to remove - no doubt Leatherman went to great lengths to make the finish stay on.  Maybe a wire wheel on a bench grinder?

(shudder)

On second thought, no. You would likely only get it part way removed, the tool would look like crap, and then what do you do? :P  My recommendation would be to buy another one like LM123 said.

In order to be certain of having the right tool for every job.........one must first acquire a lot of tools

Rather than buy a whole new tool, couldn't you just try and buy the side plates ???, I understand that, that would leave the tool half in it's original colours and half silver/grey but I think it'd look pretty good like that :)
Give in, buy several Farmer's!!!!!!

I've got some black aluminum side plates leftover, but no titanium ones. :(   I doubt a person could get them from Leatherman either. :( :(

Thank may be worth looking into.

And for the removal, I was thinking of something along the lines of soaking in some paint/lacquer  thinner or other harsh chemicals.

Personally I wouldn't risk it - but then again I love my Cabela's Charge precisely because of the finish.

I'd say there's a fair chance that someone might swap it for a Titanium Ti/XTi or AL/ALX to be honest, but if you decide to go ahead I reckon the Black aluminium plates that J-Sews mentioned would look ace with the BO blades  :)

Also - there's a new poster called Kwakster who was on here earlier who might be able to source some Ti plates (dunno but you could PM him and ask).

I used to come here a lot.
