Alox advertising question.
on: March 04, 2015, 02:56:54 PM
Are Alox advertising knives of lower value simply from a collectors stand point, or would they be less desirable than even their plain silver scaled counterparts to a user?

Excellent question Higgins. I would have thought that it wouldn't matter to a user, maybe even more desirable because they come in different colours, but to a collector maybe the advertising cancels out the colour in terms of value. Ijust don't know. And yet here I am, offering an answer

I do it all the time, have you read my posts :D. That's kind of my point though, I'd love to have some various colored options and I couldn't care less if there happens to be a logo etched on it. But I wouldn't be putting it in a case to display

Depends on what your interests in collecting are. Some collect advertising SAKs exclusively or as a main interest. SM5K collects 58mm advertising SAKs, Sneider advertising ALOX and Secretaries, ...

A lot depends on the company. Rolex knives regularly go for a lot (Rolex collectors have deep pockets). Microsoft also generally is pricey. Others are cheap and common - a lot of people here have Renata watch case knives (Renata makes batteries for Swiss watches).

I would say this makes the SAKs more valuable and collectible. I know many who shun 93mm models with the advertising plate, but for 84, 74 and 58mm, advertising models are a great thing to collect. The thing is, for 58 and 74mm models, prices are still somewhat small, while a 84mm model in smooth alox with advertising can easily set you back a cool 100$ if in proper shape

Always on the lookout for smooth alox 84mm advertising Victorinox models - Bantam, Cadet, Cadet II, Voyageur! Message me if you have something

Myself, I like the 93mm alox with the advertising logo, providing it's in a color I'd like.
