Nope, the guy is pretty much spot on. :)  One of the few exceptions to the rule seems to have been a bit of a fad in the C16th, the style known as "Case of Rapiers", that is fencing with two swords of the same size.  Like so:

by Marozzo

by Di Grassi

The practice was encouraged because it was hard, not because it was effective. ;)

Many, many years ago I had a bout with a chap who had done quite a good standard of training with twin Chinese broadswords, I was using a single sabre.  The results were interesting (and mostly in my favour ;)).  As the chap in the video suggests, coordinating two effective attacks to land completely simultaneously is much harder than you might think.

Thanks, Mike!

 :salute: :tu:

I'm going to have to look at more videos from this gentleman. Very informative, very clear examples.

Nice video that makes lots of sense. :tu:

I was watching through his channel and found quite a few videos of him in Croatia, various videos of the Diocletian's Palace. :D

I've known Matt Easton for years.  While we don't agree on everything (training methods especially) that doesn't make him a bad guy.  I respect his opinions, even if I don't always agree with them. ;)

Ah, yeah, you used to be an instructor, right? Do you still teach?

Yeah, and would you believe I was once far better known than Matt Easton?  I stopped teaching a few years ago now, the politics of trying to get a national federation to move in a way I wanted became frustrating, the organising of a club and the teaching three times a week (for free) became work rather than fun.  I still keep my hand in every so often and still have friends who are involved, but personally I lost the love.
