What is the purpose of the can with a strap going around it?

It is an alcohol stove. More pics in this link. The movable strap covers the air intakes to control the flame.

Thanks. It's coming along nicely.Just getting to the point where I have to think about each new acquisition.

My current favourite is probably this old standard. But it changes daily.

I don't know about others but I really enjoy the knives that are no longer in production. Maybe of has to do with the idea that they will get progressively more scarce. So I get really excited when I see pliers without the crimper (like on my handyman and on the Swiss champ I have coming). Or the transition scissors (grooved handle but screw joint) on my super tinker. Can key on my Fisherman's square screwdriver.

That standard is in very good condition has an awl without sewing eye, a caplifter without the notch or the half stop and a very good set of economy scales. And that just makes me happy.

It speaks to the nerd in me. In my PIC above the only knives with lanyards on them are the latest tangstamp and therefore allowed to be used. The rest are sacred treasures.

No old cross for me.  :(

It's not just that though. It has the straight blade and not the tapered one. And it's red.
