am i crazy?
on: July 26, 2008, 07:51:06 AM
it seems for me, almost every single day of my life, i could have done something better or more effifiently if i had a magnet. i think some kind of magnet on a stick or just magnetic side or even a detachable magnet or magnetic screwdriver would really be a great help. anyone agree?

I think I have sometimes seen small telescoping rods with a magnet on the end for sale at dollar stores. If I recall correctly, they were a little long and awkward for pocket carry, but they were very small and light and could certainly be tucked in a bag.

What kinds of situations do you regularly encounter where a magnet would have been helpful?

That's actually not a bad idea mate, especially if you were screwing in those tiny screw's into a really tight space :)
Give in, buy several Farmer's!!!!!!

ive seen those, about the size of a pen? i just think it would be helpful on the toolkit that is a multitool

well, just todya i droppped an entire box of sheetmetal screws while putting up a new closet, and yesterday i droppped thespring to a pen that i oculd not find on the rug, so it would have been helpful to just pan around the floor with a little magnet:)

Or you could stop dropping things.  :P

You can probably cut one down to fit into the side pocket of leatherman sheath.

Maybe you could just magnetize one of your tools?

yea, but im just saying why not at the factory, for one extra option that will send up MT guys nuts! i was thinking for the detachable one, it would fit in a slot like the extra bit on the skeletool.

I have one of those extendable magnets.  They are pretty handy ( I used mine to get at objects when repairing washing machines) and are very strong for such a small magnet.
I'm back!!

and it would ERASE the magnetic stripe on your ATM and credit cards in your wallet if it got in the same pocket.

I too have one of the magnets on a telescoping rod similar to an old radio antenna while not an edc item it has been invaluable for recovering dropped screws etc and I can recommend them

I have a standard telescoping magnet doodad as well, but I also have a really interesting one with eight small electronics type screwdrivers built into the handle.  Useless for PC work, but pretty handy for a lot of other things!

You can buy them at auto stores. I found one that had a small magnet on a telescoping metal rod that looked like a FM radio antenna
