I don’t have a car too put a tool in. Butt I use the subway and busses so my emergency/rescue tool is what I EDC for the day, and for the time being it’s the Swisstool, and there is a good reason for my EDC of the Swisstool and not the Powerlock. The pliers fits perfect into the locks that they use on the subway and busses, I don’t know how to describe the locks so I will take a pic of it tomorrow. So, the reality is that I can take a train for a joyride.

Now, ultimaonliner asked what MT you keep in your car for emergency use. Butt where in your car do you keep the tool and what emergency are you predicting? If you are keeping the tool in the trunk then how are you too get it if the car is sinking. Don’t think this is a problem since 99.99% of us here EDC a MT or SAK.
There is no problem that cannot be solved by the use of high explosives.

What about the Ugly Tool, aka the Box Tool?

It's a bit of a favorite of mine, plus it's got a pry bar, nail puller, hatchet and hammer all in one.

The box hatchet is a great tool. I should put them in our cars. Maybe I should buy some more to give to the kids.

Def, thanks for reminding me about them.

No problem- I love that tool, and for $13 you can't go wrong!  It's a great escape tool in case you are in an accident, a great extricator if someone else is in an accident, excellent self defense tool for car jackers, and even helps if there's a branch or other blockages on the road after a storm.  And, you can pound out dents with it too!

I agree. I thought it would be a cheap piece of junk at that price, but it's a tough tool that just happens to be cheap enough that you don't have to worry about it or baby it. I paid $22.35 plus shipping for three of them.

edit: to correct price

It's one of those tools that costs more to ship than it's worth!

It isn't the most precision manufactured tool out there, but lets face it, for the kinds of jobs it's meant for, all you need is a solid hunk of iron that you can abuse and not worry about the finish.  I "modded" mine with hockey tape on the handle to increase grip because the yellow painted handle could get kind of slick.  I'd like to see a version of this about half again as long too, to give more leverage, but pound for pound, this is one of the best tools out there IMHO.

Thanks, but the postal cost is not worth it. I'll remember to find one when I'm in ottawa next time.
