Possible Skeletool date markings?
on: March 31, 2015, 02:36:21 AM
Howdy all,
On my new Skeletool, I've noticed that there are letter markings on the plier head near the joints.  The one on the screwdriver handle is an A, the one on the carabiner handle is an E.

Is there any known significance?

Nope, just LMs internal part markings. You'll find them on other tools too. I think there's a C or R on Juices.

We asked LM a long time ago about the date codes and answer was no date codes on Skeles.

It looks to me like they make the occasional, subtle change so you can tell the tools apart year from year.  These are missing the large circles on the pliers near the handles like my old one had.

On a related question, has anyone ever been turned down for warranty service by Leatherman because the tool was too old?  I know some PSTs are over 25 now.

I've heard some stores where if the pst is 27 years or so old they will still replace it.

I think the only tool they for sure won't warranty is LM Shears.

The numbers/letters are for tracking the cast jaws. The numbers denote what mold and the letters denote what cavity in the mold the part came from.
