Last Monday,a friend and I took a ramble down the Thames Path, from London Bridge(yes, the one that's still in London, and no,it's not falling down :D) In fairness,it's not my favourite part of the Thames Path(by a long chalk) but there's a few interesting and unexpected sights to see.

And again, from London Bridge, looking at the South Bank.

That's the Shard,London's tallest building, and possibly its biggest eyesore.

Some stormy night,I still expect it to extend an eye stalk and start screaming Exterminate :ahhh

Southwark Cathedral is just visible on the right of the photo

In fifteen years of living in and around London, this is actually the first time I've seen The Monument

The Monument commentates The Great Fire of London http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Fire_of_London

Here's what Wikipedia has to say about the Monument itself
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monument_to_the_Great_Fire_of_London

Ironically, the Mounment is basically invisible from the bridge. London has kind of grown taller around it

It was a bit of a detour, but here's The London Stone. Depends which legend you believe,it was part of The Temple of Diana, built by Brutus, and his fellow survivors of Troy,to celebrate the founding of Albion

Bit more mundane, and less mythic :D

There's a lot of buildings on both the north and South banks like this. The old(realitivly) wharf buildings. They've lately been gentrified now

Proper old school boozer :drink:

Fortunately,in the midst of the charity and piety there's another boozer

Joking aside, there's something very sad about decommissioned churches. Seeing them turned into yuppie flats is just worse again

Nice walk Kirk.

Odd thing about the monument, it's thought more people have died jumping off it than died in the fire of London, Ironic.

If you ever feel like a walk in the forest at the end of the central line, drop me a line   :)

It's funny,my friend said there was something 'dark' about the Momument! I think the only deaths now would be at the entry fee

I'll most definitely take you up on the forest :tu:

don't know how much you like your trains? If you take the central line all the way out in Essex to the end you can jump on a old route master to Epping Ongar railway.

This old building was part of the London Hydrolic Power company. I'd never heard of it but...

The wife and I wandered around a lot of that area up and down the Thames when we lived in Canada Water... a few times we even over did it and walked super far from home

Thanks for sharing this. I was fortunate enough to visit the UK a few years back and seeing those photos of yours was a nice reminder. I have to admit I much prefer the countryside to anything in the city though!

Interesting walk.     :tu:

Visited the Tower and HMS Belfast on a trip to London many years ago. What is that yellow thing in the third photo?
