For my part, the Kick/Fuse/Blast/Core days were the pinnacle of the Leatherman experience.

 :woohoo:
Hey guys just rejoined the club! Found my old Orange Fuse and I had no idea it was considered rare until I saw it a few days ago on ebay going for $200+, the other day I did see it go for $150. Is it really that rare? Anyways I got it back when I was a teenager and it was a huge upgrade from the chinese sak knockoff that the scouts store sold me back then. It has a decent amount of rust just from sitting around unused for so long and not oiling it but considering how long ago I bought it not bad at all! There's also a slight bit of damage on the tip of the blade. I sent an email earlier today to Leatherman about the tool's condition so I'm wondering what they will do. I know some people soak them in vinegar to remove rust from some of the older tools but I'm worried about ruining the orange coating or the zytel inserts. For me it's actually almost the perfect multitool, the only real thing it's missing is a file (diamond please) and maybe a pocket clip hole on the rivet like the Kick had. Here's some pictures of the tool attached, sorry no beauty shots, I'm new to multitool photos haha.

Hello and welcome to the forum !

I would take some utra fine steel wool and some wd-49 and lightly wipe away the rust. The knife doesn't look too bad to me nor does the rust.  :tu:

Thanks for the tips! I think I'll go pick those up at a hardware store soon and clean it up! I agree on the rust and blade, it's not a big deal, I'm actually impressed how well it held up considering it's using bead blasted stainless steel. Thanks, I'll upload a picture when I clean it up.

Second attempt I forgot how to use forums haha
So I finally got around to cleaning up my Orange Fuse! It was very easy with the stuff I picked up from SteveC's recommendations. It's not perfect for every single area but it looks great now! Was planning on getting a Bond just to make sure I didn't lose or damage the Fuse but I just got into quite the accident. Hit a curb quite hard on my way back from dropping off my friend at work and he works third shift. The road after the exit ramp has been under construction for months so I did the old route. Well basically that wasn't the correct way and I ended up hitting a curb. The mechanics don't even know everything that is wrong with it yet until they put new tires on it. The tow truck guy turned the car on for some reason and didn't even tell the shop when he dropped it off!  Anyways here's a couple photos, the one with the orange pop is from before removing the rust and there's an after shot too. Cameout great since it was my first time removing rust from a tool. Loving this thing all over again  :multi:

Haven’t carried my Kick consistently for a while. Got some good time with it today. Came in handy.

Kick ready for action.  I like the cutters on this one.  Plus the Zytel inserts make it super comfy to grip.  Best wishes.  G

Kick helping with radio batteries.  A local store cuts the price of Rayovac Alkaline batteries from $3.83 to $1.25 periodically.  I stocked up on C and AA yesterday.  I have seen people buy 20 packs or more at once around Christmas.  They used to go on sale for a dollar.  Inflation.
The blade on this LM is nice and sharp.  The tool reminds me of the one my late friend Lee bought.  I don't even know how many years ago that was.  He saw the review and an ad in Soldier of Fortune magazine and had to have one.  Leatherman's first model.  That was the only one I ever handled until I got my first LM in September of this year.  Really liking the Kick.  Best wishes.  Gary

Leatherman vs Food Lion.  Well Food Lion beans anyway.  First time using a Leatherman can opener.  It cut very cleanly.  Much better than the last time I used a SAK combo tool on a can.  It takes quite a few little short jags, but works very well.  Best wishes.  G

The LM can opener is superior in my opinion to the Vic style. Glad to see the Kick is serving you well, Gary!

The zytel inserts add that extra level of comfort. The Kick handles are just the right width for a good grip for my size hand.

I may end of getting several backups. Sure wish they weren’t discontinued.

The congress is an old US Boker.  They sure put a good-sized shield on these old knives.  My late Uncle Rob gave me that knife.  Best wishes. G
