Victorinox Cybertool 34: What is this?
on: May 19, 2015, 12:44:51 PM
Hello,

What an awesome forum! I have been lurking around for a while and finally figured I could need some help from you guys.

After disassembly of this awesome Victorinox Cybertool 34, I have a little problem to figure out where one small piece has to be fitted in and what it might be good for.

Picture attached. Any ideas?

Thanks a lot!

Welcome Statler  :salute:

The piece in question is a spacer that sits next to the small blade to make up the width to match the large blade.

On the older SAK's it used to act as the lanyard attachment, but as you know it's now attached to a spring in the new SAK's

Hope this helps.

Wow. Thanks for the speedy and helpful replies. For over an hour I tried to figure it out where to put this piece.   :ahhh

Hope to be able to take the blades out and replace them with one scalpel blade holder. Will also try to get rid of the can- and bottle opener.

This will often help with useful pics of component placement/order/orientation:

Thanks for the warm welcome.

CT mod sets a benchmark? Maybe I just didn't know what I would encounter when I started.

Scalpel is ready to be placed. Unfortunately, I have no idea yet on what to add to the handle of the blade holder to pull it out with the nails easily.

Really interesting mod Statler - I suppose the body of the blade holder sits too deep in the body of the SAK for a nail nick?

Thanks, Magentus. Yes, the body of the blade will sit just a few mms too deep. I am aware that i might have to order other scalpel holders and cut and drill them again until it fits. For right now I am more concerned of the length and if it all fits snuggly and if the feather works.

So will make a jig this morning to mount the knife again.

Quite frankly, I was disappointed to find out that the metal sheets which separate the tools are made of aluminum. It would be interesting to get some stainless steel sheets and water cut them.

Attached a pic of the new setup.

I really like that scalpel holder. I hope you find a solution for the accessibility problem. I've seen another mod where part of another spring (Feder or feather as you call it) was used as a stop in order to make the tool sit less deep.
As for the liners: Syph007 uses the stock aluminium liners but has them (hard) anodized. Maybe that's also an option for you?

Syph007 has cool liners indeed. I checked out many of his threads and he also has a scalpel-mod.

UPS has just brought me a delivery from Shapeways with some scale models. I figured it would be cheaper and quicker getting the scales printed and check their measurements before milling the scales into an ebony block. In the picture: original scales and white printed scales and the ebony blocks for the scales.

Great work going on here, Statler. Just a suggestion to the mods, this would be better located in the Mod Squad, you know, where the pack with the knack go to hack their SAKs.

Is it possible to file off the mushroom heads of the stock rivets instead of drilling them?

Thanks. :)
Hooked, like everyone else. ;)

All hail the hook!

Nice to see someone tackling a scalpel holder!

I did one on a 93mm mod and boy what a pain.  I ended up just getting annoyed and I riveted the blade holder onto a piece of Ti that I shaped like a normal pivot and left a bit sticking up for a way to open it.

Syph007, I admire your workmanship. Also, the simplicity of your solutions shows that you have invested a lot of thoughts and time. Of course, it won´t be possible for my first mod to get even close to your assemblies.

It seems you also ran into issues on how to get the blade out. After assembling the CT there was no way to get the blade out and also it didn't snap in as nicely as before. So a new spring and a scalpel holder holder is needed.

Now I just need to get some inox liners, springs and scalpel holder cut out.
