From what I recall, it was more speculation based upon the requirements for the new Soldier. It wasn't a rumour coming out of Vic or anything.
Maybe they (Wenger) figured that, since Vic already had a fairly extensive 93mm line, they didn't want direct competition with similar product? It's a shame, really. I really like the bail on my SI. Maybe the same logic applies to the dwindling 84mm line; it's just too similar in size and function to the 85s? I could see that logic applying now that Vic owns Wenger, and not wanting to cannibalize their own market (I know it's a stretch )
