blood stains on the blade, etc

My desk knife has blood stains on the blade.

(There is an old tradition, a game we all can play   )

So do all NNR's

I love how I have been dethroned as the one who cuts themselves all the time. I have been on a pretty good run of not cutting myself.  :tu:

Hopefully its not like earthquakes. When they don't happen for a while when it does come its catastrophic.

Famous last words. Don't jinx yourself--on the cutting oneself with a knife and earthquakes.  ;)

maybe we will have a earthquake at the same moment I am doing some cutting!!!

Don't say that. The earthquake will probably make you cut yourself.

No problem - if he cuts to much, we can always call him Captain Hook.
Have fun.

I live in rural Northern California where I carry a PM2 everyday and pull it out in front of co workers in the warehouse and no one bats an eye. Now a lot of transplants from So Cal live here as well and those people drive me crazy. (Not including our wonderful friends here from So Cal. )

I fall into this group.

Like everything in life, there is a cost/benefit analysis that we go through, and there is some pragmatism involved as well.  I rebel against people trying to steal my freedom by characterizing a regular pocket knife as a weapon and characterizing me as a potential criminal just because I have a regular pocket knife with me.  If we conform to their neurosis, we have allowed them to set the new standard of right and wrong.  And that would be a big mistake.  Those people make me want to carry something big and scary, just because I am a free person and it is legal to do so.  Call it "push back" if you will.  I never wanted to buy a Confederate flag, for example, until Google and Amazon told me I could not buy one.  That's push back too.  Or the Law of Unintended Consequences.  Now I want to buy 10x of them.  I don't like for people - especially stupid people - to tell me how to live or what to eat or what kind of light bulb I have to buy.

OTOH, I never intentionally whip out a big knife in front of other people just to cause a scene.  In addition to a medium or large blade, I always carry a Vic Classic SD or similar "friendly" blade, and use the latter where it is appropriate to do so.

What this boils down to I guess is that its a good excuse - where legal - to carry both a big scary blade and a small friendly blade.  That way, you get to give the finger to the "its a weapon" crowd, but you still have a tiny blade to use around kids and others who you don't want to scare.

It's true. The only thing that affects my decision in all of this is the level of respect I have for those around me. If I know I'm going to be using it at my job that is all middle aged women? Last time I brought a 111 centurion DAK to cut my apple (needed a big blade to slice it, but didn't want to be threatening) I got a rude comment about it. While it doesn't bother me (the comment came from the one person I work with who I don't like), it made me upset that a reasonable action (cutting an apple on a plate) is a chance for someone to disrespect me? I've carried my camo/black blade para2 since  Plus all the others love when I sharpen their pencils and grease pencils while we're processing :D

Be sure to apply your cost/benefit analysis to what happens when you feed a neurosis. Sometimes, they then take action to alleviate that neurosis. Note that I'm not saying what's right or wrong here, just pointing out that there are potential consequences. Sometimes the most pragmatic solution is to avoid creating conflict if/when possible. I'm sure many of you guys here are that are or have been married know that's true.  :D

Knives (etc) confiscated by our police in recent months.

There were also a few tables full of firearms.

Funny part for me was the police raid a shebeen, the patrons run out and weapons just litter the floor....

I'll rather get a new one  :salute:

What I took away from this is I'll need to get a big folding knife and a small pepper spray that works....

We're being moved to a new parking area at a shopping center, same walking distance but I expect problems in that area.
Unfortunately can't get my female colleagues to take matters seriously.....despite what we see in the news every day.

If i open a SAK in public or a cold steel Espada XXl, i think it will make a pretty big change.
I had an Cold steel AK 47 before and everyone i showed the knife was pretty impressed by it.
I have now bought the 2015 Cold steel mini AK 47 with CTS XHP as my edc knife and people are a lot less impressed by it.

I did not buy the small version because of the blade size, but more because due to its size it is more pocket friendly.

I always carry a small blade. Alone or by side of a larger blade.
I´m not concerned about legal matters. Here you are allowed to carry a multitool or pocket knife for normal use, no mention of locks or size (much in contrary to what most people here think is the law). I can always justify carrying one and I don´t act in a way that would alarm the police anyway.

I own the company I work in and I sure didn´t make any blade policy, at least not one with a limit :)
Even so I always think twice about the setting before opening a blade.
People here have become so sheeple it is beyond belief. Not in the country side of course, we have an extreme amount of hunters, but in the city.
I can´t explain why, beacuse I normally am not concerned about what people think of me, but I don´t feel comfortable with anything other than a really small blade in certain settings. Sometimes I even use scissors when a blade would be better. (No, I pee standing)

I'm a fan of smaller knives, always have been.  Lately I've left my larger folders at home, and carry setups like a Rambler and a Barlow or Dragonfly.  My Manbug sees a lot of pocket time too.  Why?  Not because I'm afraid of scaring someone, it's because living in an urban environment I've found that's all I really need.
There's no such thing as "Too pretty to carry".  There's only "Too pretty NOT to carry"...... >:D

I think this has a lot to do with it.  I have never once run into so much as a question about what I'm carrying by any police officer, ever.  My demeanor is happy, non-confrontational, and I happily comply with Peace Officer's requests.  I'm not threatening or intimidating and I largely go unnoticed because of that.  There are lots of benefits to keeping a cool head, especially around Police.  If they perceive in the slightest that you might be a threat, anything you have on you is a potential weapon, whether it's legal or not.

Sometimes I carry large folders, sometimes I carry a fixed blade.  most often I just carry a Leatherman and a small SAK or folder.  I pretty much always use the small SAK for everything though, as I work in a Hotel and it's polite to be discreet.  When I worked in a Machine shop, anything I carried was fine to use, no one was skittish there.

I'm pretty sure that a decent SAK will not only be safe for all situations, it usually handles the lions share of what most of us need a knife for on a daily basis.

I'm fine with a Skeletool in my pocket, and I have no need or desire to carry a bigger knife in the office.

For the 10 minute walk between car and office I want the smallest sword I can carry.
But seriously now, looking at those confiscated knives made me realize a 3" blade won't scare these dudes.....

I would say that's why there's a big fan base for the Rambler, Signature and Manager. As much as I'd like to carry my Forester, I'm sure everyone around me plus my wife and kids would rather see me use the Manager.

I also just like small knives more than large, some folding knifes are so large that they are hard to open because of the large size.
My prefered blade size for a folder is between 2,5 and 4 inches. Not smaller and not larger. My cold steel ak 47 mini is 3 inches and i really like it. I've had the large version before and i found it a little harder to open it quickly.
