...I drink more wine than I undo Phillips screws these days...
I like these threads, telling people how to spend their money instead of me spending mine Aside from my first choice of "all of them" , I think I would vote for the Climber Plus. I have the same dilemma with the Explorer; and it's just a bit too thick to pocket carry comfortably, though I still do occasionally. And the Evo doesn't even have the option of using the can opener for phillips, so the Climber seems a good middle option.
Sounds like a decent Phillips is a must for you. Do you carry a pliers based MT too, or just a SAK?
I still carry and use all my older stuff, all the Wengers, original Yeoman, even a 1970's Original Outdoorsman sees a lot of pocket time. I appreciate different people have different perspectives though.
So, two blades, scissors, inline Phillips, full opener layer.... well that's at least an Explorer or Voyager Lite maybe.
Only other thing I can think of is go for a Evo 14 or Climber, and put a Vic Manager on your keys to handle the Phillips, small blade, and pen.
I will add at this point that I have 10 different versions of Wenger Traveller and have a Manager on my car keys, so I can confirm this works very well To behonest though, in general my Phillips requirements tend to be fulfilled with my pliers tool, so I can afford to carry a slimmer SAK most of the time
I would carry that Spartan you said you have, and add a manager to your keychain to cover the Philips, scissors, and pen.Heck, that's pretty much my setup.
You could talk to Syph, and have him make you a nice mod.Slim down a Explorer. Take magnifying glass off, and put opener layer opposite phillips screwdriver. Now it comes so close to the size of Climber. Could add plus scales for pen.
If the Explorer is your favourite and you want the openers and in-line Philips go for the explorer on a belt dangler. I carry a Woodsman like that and unless I'm wearing tighter jeans I don't know it's even there. Until I need it.
Fellas, I went with the Explorer Plus, with emerald green Plus scales, and my initials stamped on the main blade.http://www.ebay.com/itm/380895437039(Image removed from quote.)I made him an offer of $47. If he didn't take it, I was gonna get an Evo 14. But Dellasknives accepted my generous offer, hehehe. So now, I will have a new & improved Explorer in my collection, and it will be only 1.2mm thicker than the Spartan Lite I carried today, which felt so good in me pocket.
Happy you found a solution. But the search for a 3 layer inline Phillips is an interesting problem you haven't solved.I want to make a suggestion for those who want an inline Phillips ,Large and small blade layer in a 3 layer SAK ,BUT NO Combo tool -Get a Passenger You give up the scissors but a Rambler or Classic can somewhat fill that void. The other option , a Climber and somewhat filling the void of a Phillips with the Phillips on the 58 models,(Rambler for example) is not as good.If an inline Phillips is a TOP priority, and you can only comfortably carry a 3 layer SAK compromise on the scissors.Passengers still show up on eBay.a Cybertool 29 is 3 layers but as fat as an Explorer
The only passenger I can find on eBay right now is nearly $80!

Shalom, I just need to man-up and carry the Explorer. I like EVERYTHING about the Explorer, except the fact that it is 4 layers. With that reasoning, I spent a load of money on a +B Yeoman, but was immediately let down by the combo tool, and a bit less so by the lack of a small blade.I found that I like the Super Tinker better than the Yeoman.I had a Climber Plus and liked it, but either gave it away or lost it.I think I will try an Evo 14 next, just for the heck of it. Since I've already had a Climber.Or maybe try my hand at modding and make a Passenger from a used Explorer.Someone here said it, and I didn't realize the truth of it until he said it: "In practice, I don't miss the scissors as much as I miss them in theory." A sharp knife blade does many things that a scissors would do
