I tried it once on my Recruit, which I was fashioning into a whittling knife.

First, I re-shaped the small blade to be more pointy.

Then, I removed the keyring and ground off the nub that the keyring goes through.

The next step was to make a draw knife out of the can opener. But my first step was to cut off the lower hook part that hooks on the lip of a can. When I closed the can opener after that, it went all the way down so I needed another tool to get it out, ruining the knife. Apparently, it rests against the hook part. I may try it again on another knife, but skip the part where I ruin it and go right to the sharpening. :-\

Send it to me. I will put a new opener in for a small fee.

Sucks about the can opener being ruined, but can we see some pictures of the various modifications you made to the blades anyway?  :D

Looking at the angles I'd have thought the can opener as a draw knife would work better if you were left handed. I've just ordered some of Chris Lubkemann's books and have a couple of Recruits in a draw not doing anything that I'll have a go at modifying. Would it be possible to wedge a small piece of wood or plastic in the gap to make the can opener draw knife sit up? Would be interested to see your mods
