Have you successfully sharpened a Vic can opener into a draw knife?

I tried it once on my Recruit, which I was fashioning into a whittling knife.

First, I re-shaped the small blade to be more pointy.

Then, I removed the keyring and ground off the nub that the keyring goes through.

The next step was to make a draw knife out of the can opener. But my first step was to cut off the lower hook part that hooks on the lip of a can. When I closed the can opener after that, it went all the way down so I needed another tool to get it out, ruining the knife. Apparently, it rests against the hook part. I may try it again on another knife, but skip the part where I ruin it and go right to the sharpening.

Sucks about the can opener being ruined, but can we see some pictures of the various modifications you made to the blades anyway?

Looking at the angles I'd have thought the can opener as a draw knife would work better if you were left handed. I've just ordered some of Chris Lubkemann's books and have a couple of Recruits in a draw not doing anything that I'll have a go at modifying. Would it be possible to wedge a small piece of wood or plastic in the gap to make the can opener draw knife sit up? Would be interested to see your mods
