Bicycle Tyre Presure's?

How important is it to observe the restriction's placed on a bicycle tyre

, my Yuba Mundo weight's 26kg without me or my boy on it, and I'd like to inflate the rear tyre (I'll leave the front at 45psi, as a rear blow out I can handle!) beyond the limit of 45psi to try and cut down on the rolling resitance and hopefully make the bike a lot less tiring to ride over long distances fully loaded

u can pump it very high,no problem,if u got good tire and especially the tube is some other than taiwanese crap.

i havent ever blown any tires ´cause of high pressures,theyre blown by punctures caused by rose spikes,glass,nails etc.

but check out the rim tape too,,that its ok so the spoke nuts wont slowly eat their way thru rim tape and the tube.

I agree,I normally run my tires @90psi which is above the recommended 70 psi mind you my Raleigh is currently equipped with 27x1 1/4 tires.I've had a lot of luck with Kevlar folding bead tires.Inspecting the rim tape is something a lot of people overlook..I don't;I learned the hard way

Might be better to get tires that are rated at the higher pressure.

Running them above their rated pressure might not cause them to go BANG
(though it obviously will if the pressure is high enough), but it could cause
them to fail prematurely in less catastrophic ways.

I left half my ass cheek in a backwoods Lousiana blacktop road because i put too much air in my tubulars and it went BANG!! and i went down hard. Scuffed the hell out of my broke in Brooks.

Well the tyres are about 6-7mm thick (there a purpose made tyre made for African road's so are VERY heavy duty) so I'm not to worried about them blowing up, and the tubes are similarly HD

THanks for the info guys, I'll put some more psi in them and test them a bit before I take my boy out on them next

I keep mine under recommanded, last time I went over it went BOOM in two days.

Mine were skinny road tires thou, so go find out if yours will do the same.

It's really going to be more of a factor of how well your tires interface with the particular rims you're using. All name brand tires are pretty durable and will take some really high pressures, but if the bead doesn't mount well on the rim, they will separate.

With that said, I ride 120-140 psi in my 700c Continentals all the time. I've had many flats due to underinflated MTB tires offroad, but have never had a flat (or catastrophic failure) from overinflating.

Be sure to use a good quality rim tape like Velox and not just a thin butyl strip also.
