Generally I like a SAK sans keyring, just feels better in the hand. Less of a pressure point, especially when rotating the drivers. Also, I Had a lanyard on one and it kept getting in the way when I was trying to make some pilot holes with a 93mm. Plus I don't care for the loop to rattle around if theres no lanyard on it.

I have put lanyards on a few but I don't feel there's much benefit to having one.

Farmer and cadet, just de-keyringed. Now I might start to appreciate the farmer more.  :D

The ring hole is absolutely mandatory for me weather it's for a lanyard, fob, keys, or pocket hanger. Without it the SAK can't be carried.

I have the small lanyard that is offered by Victorinox dealers with the small loop of nylon cord, and the clear/black co-molded pull with the Victorinox logo on it.

I only have a couple, so I switch them to whatever I'm carrying.    It makes pulling it out of my watch pocket or belt sheath much easier.

I would never file one off, if I was bothered by the ring I would take that off but would leave the eyelet.

I use pocket hangers to carry my SAKs,  so for me that reason alone is reason to have it.
also my pocket hangers just clip on,  so if it is in the way,  I just pop it off real quick

I have not carried my new-to-me Electrician because it does not have a keyring

I have also used a SAK as a line weight and tossed it,  connecting to the keyring was easy.

and though it is not my picture,  this is reason enough for me.

I recently used the hook like this:

(Image removed from quote.)

It made it easier for me to crawl beneath the wire.

here is the picture

If I can help, let me know

I like the keyring and normally put lanyards on my SAKs.  I like how lanyards look on SAKs but admittedly they can get in the way especially when using my Swisschamps inline phillips.  I got an OC Farmer that came with a damaged keyring that I filed off and for this particular SAK it works.

I would rather they brought back the old "bail" - I don't mind the keyring but to me it has always felt a little insubstantial  :)

I don't tend to use it but find it a harmless inclusion that I do not notice most of the time. So happy for it to be sit there doing it's thing...

It's a must-have for me also. Another reason I don't own an electrician is the lack of it on that model...

I do not like it. However I do use lanyards when needed. And I do carry an alox rambler on my key ring.

I like it on models small enough to keychain carry ( < 70mm) and large enough that one might want to use a belt hanger. ( > 3 layers thick)

The rest of the time, I grind them off.

I like the keyring! It's useful when I want to carry my SAK on my keychain. :)

I think that the keyring is absolutely essential.

I really miss it when I carry my soldier.

I'm in a love-hate relationship with it. On the one hand, I like being able to secure the knife if working over water or something like that, on the other hand, I hardly ever use the feature as such and on the 93 mm the protrusion may be uncomfortable in the hand. On the other other hand, I sometimes use a belt hanger, and they are pretty great. All in all, a feature I guess I like having on a 91 mm, but don't use a lot. Being able to hang the knife to dry or for easy access is nice too.

I use mine all the time. I don't like the idea of reaching for my knife and it not being there.

All my 58s and 65s get attached to something, so on those it's essential.

On the 84s, 85s and 91s the keyring attachment doesn't tend to get used. I've used it on my Brushed Stainless Traveller to keep it attached to a Dima and a light as a quick grab combo, and my Soft Touch 14 has a Shard attached to it. The rest just get thrown in a pocket, and I don't use lanyards.

I've also noticed that some feel sharper than others which makes them more noticable/uncomfortable.

I like 'em, whether on 58's, 84's, 91's, or 93's.

My 84mm Golfers don't have them, which doesn't bother me, but I notice it's not there.  I've always played with them, kind of like worry beads.  I usually only add lanyards on the 3+ layer knives and on my large folders.  For lanyards I use leather or paracord...sometimes spending time doing nicer paracord knots.

Actually, I just bought a Compact on eBay that somebody buggered removing the keyring.  For a reasonable price, I'll take it apart, remove the "worthless" hook and put an awl in it's place, put a new keyring on it, and have a great user (for me).  I'm stuck on Golfers and Cadets for EDC's!

Nice man looks really cool.
I don't mind the hook, but I do like the awl better.

+1

If not for attaching them to a pocket clip, to use with a lanyard. Makes them easier to take out and gives a better hold on them. Also a way to carry some paracord around.

Yes, er

No!

Well, sometimes...

Seriously though, if I need the keyring/lanyard to help pull the SAK out of a pouch or if it's riding vertically in a pocket then yes, but most of the time I want my EDC knife to fall to the bottom of my pocket, so no. But then again, to attach a 58mm on a keyring requires one.

These kinds of questions mess with my OCD.  :ahhh

I think it would satisfy everyone if Victorinox make the key ring nub where it could rotate in or out like the Leatherman Squirt.  put the key ring in it if you want, or remove the ring and rotate it in if you do not.

Where is the Victorinox Suggestion box?

This is MTo, it is utterly impossible to make everybody happy. I strongly prefer the current solution for 91 mm with having it as a part of the backspring. Strong, simple, the polishing of the spring ensures no sharp edges. Even if I rarely use the key ring for anything.

+1 Steiner - very comfortable in use.

I don't like the 93mm nub at all though. I'd love it if a hollow rivet was standard - then you could decide for yourself whether to have a lanyard or not.
