Wenger Year Codes
on: August 13, 2008, 07:49:18 PM
When did Wenger start to put the manufacturing years on the ricasso of their knives ?
In one of my magic boxes i found 4 Wenger knives in good condition with 73,74,75 and 80 on the ricasso's.
The scales are matte red instead of polished.

Will post pictures later,

:o If those numbers indicate years then that sounds like some older knives  But since I know nothing about that it could just be model numbers  ;) :D

Did they have exposed rivets?  Did they look like this:

These are "Handwerkers", which were made partly from leftover SI parts,
though that marlinspike is something I have never seen anywhere else.
It is in the middle, between the awl and the saw.

Hmmm, does this mean 1973, 1974, etc??
In order to be certain of having the right tool for every job.........one must first acquire a lot of tools

These are pictures of 3 of these knives,

As far as i can see the knives are new, the tiny marks you see on the scales came from lying unprotected in a box among dozens of other Wenger knives.
The blades and all the other tools have some sort of machine finish on them, instead of the usual polishing.
The screwdriver on the knife in the bottom two pictures has the word 'PROFI' and 'wenger' stamped or lasered on it.
(Some pictures are lousy,)

I'd say those are "Handwerkers" too.  Let us know what you find out.
