I've never been satisfied with the lanyard on this Spartan. Today it got the angle grinder treatment....

Upgraded El German Spartan with a back plus scale.  He says he's very damit zufrieden.  What ever that means...  :D

So we can say Spartan Saturday?
Personally, I like the 91mm size.

I was wondering yesterday why I have 3 Spartans and no Tourists. I suspect it's the knowledge that 91mm scales are easily interchanged... I bought my orange Spartan hoping to transplant the scales (to what, I never decided - so to this day they're still on that Spartan.)  Without that intention I'd definitely not have bought a 3rd Spartan.

I prefer 91 mm over 84 mm since I think pocketability is very similar, but 91 mm is noticeably more comfortable to handle. A lot of people feel the other way around. :)

(91 mm is also slightly stronger, with thicker pins, but I have never had any problems with either 84 or 91 mm there.)

I agree with Steinar.

I find the 91mm slightly more comfortable to use. The 84mm SAK's do carry slightly better.

And I'm a fan of bigger blades. You can just do more, more easily, with a 111mm than a 91mm or an 84mm.  Much more? No, not really. But there are times when a slightly larger blade has an advantage (with in reason).

That being said, I love the Sportsman Barry sent me.  Easy to carry and hugely functional.

And that's why I like the older Tourists, they're more comfortable to carry and use due to no lanyard ring. Vic should never have changed the Tourist to have a keyring attachment. They don't have scale tools, but I am usually carrying a Classic for the scissors, so that doesn't bother me.

Those are nice scales--who was it made for?

Plus scales are important to me, tons more scale variations,  also like the longer tools, especially the caplifter...  but I do like the 84mm size.   Lately I've been choosing the cadet over the Tourist.

Hey! This is Spartan Saturday. Not Cadet come-along-lately.  :pok:

(Although I'm delighted to see you embracing the Cadet. I think that wasn't awlways the case.)

@Cody: I don't know the history behind the scales.

Thanks.  I didn't intend to take the thread off track.  Just curious as to why the Spartan over its smaller counterpart, that's all.

I happen to own both.

No worries, Nascar. I was just giving El C some undeserved harassment. I think we all enjoyed the diversion of your question.  :tu:

I got a tinker that is basically a Spartan 84 mm but with Phillips instead of corkscrew. Love it but since I got a red cadet it's a no-competition. It's so solid and still only 0.8 mm / 0.6 inch thick!

I might well include a pic of my cadet and ofc today's carry: Spartan silver thingie!
