It is Barry. I'm not into wooden scales really being a T&T man but this I do like. And my Walnut Spartan.

I'm having to rethink some of my assumptions !

Happy Spartan Saturday. In a change to the usual booze photos, the Spartan opened breakfast this morning.

There's a bit of a story to this Spartan, which I'll share if i get a chance.

At Christmastime, my family was still under the impression that we didn't have any Swiss Army Knives. Until they opened their presents. My five oldest kids each got a SAK. My wife got a Classic. My oldest son got a Fisherman, my two oldest daughters got Huntsmen, and my second son got a Fieldmaster. But I hadn't managed to get a 4-layer knife for my third daughter, so I gave her this Spartan. She (11 years old) graciously received it, though I felt bad that it was smaller and less capable than the other kids' 4-layer knives. So last week, I realized I had a nice custom wood-scaled Huntsman with tnt, and I let her trade her Spartan out for the Huntsman. She was tickled.

Then later she asked what I would do with her old Spartan. I said I didn't know yet. But after thinking about it, I asked her if she would like to give it to her grandmother.

So when Grandma came over today, she gave her her very own Swiss Army Knife. She had to show Grandma all the uses for it, too.  :)

That's why I don't like camo knives. They look nice, but man! Give me bright colors, all day, every day!  :salute:

The "hardwood" Spartan, previous to the walnut one, has T&T. The wood has beautiful colour and grain, but matching scales are relatively rare. I guess that's why Vic changed to walnut. This one's not too bad (the back scale is a little redder than the front one), and the price was good because of the logo. But I've seen worse, and at least it has a Swiss theme.

I like camo, and this is my first camo SAK. I like the pattern, dunno if I'd buy a different one. But I hear ya! Bright colours are infinitely more practical outdoors.

Also, I want to tell everyone here how much I love this thread. It's my favourite theme one, with an intimate membership that really appreciates this comparatively simple model that's the basis of an incredible range.  :salute:

Sawl, that's a carry when it happens   I'm with Jim in bright colored knives for EDC.  That's a great pic though.  The only thing I saw, after really looking, was the outline of the Vic shield!

I live about 45 minutes away from a city called Spartanburg, South Carolina. This model ought to be real popular there.
