Can't make up my mind please help.
on: September 19, 2015, 12:27:13 AM
Hey guys,

Looking for some help on deciding on a new addition for my EDC. Trying to keep the price low but still have a good quality blade to compliment my Kershaw Blur and Emerson with EDC tasks.

My options are,

Spyderco Endura 4
Spyderco Manix 2
SOG Aegis

Which would you choose and why?

Thanks all.

Sog Aegis. I like the look and lack of hole.

Manix 2. Prefer the blade and lock to the Endura. Not a fan of SOG at all.

The SOG is a definite pass in my opinion. The other two knives are much better. I personally do not like the Manix and love the Endura so the Endura4 is easily my choice. In my opinion the Endura4 is a incredible knife and really fits the bill (for me) extremely well. I love everything about it.

I have zero experience with either one of these companies. Just from pics, I'd pick the Endura 4. I like the blade's shape and grind better than the Manix. I'd like a better choil (lower part of the tang?) though. The SOG doesn't appeal to me. My 2 cents :)

I love this forum for everyone's experiences and opinions. Just was checking the bank and the wife over spent on the food budget leaving me with no gas to get to work till next payday. Looks like the new toy will have to wait as knife money just went out the window.

I'm honestly so hard pressed will probably pick up all three eventually. I'm really liking the lock on the Manix2 and the assisted opening on the Aegis, and the blade on the Endura. Why can't I have all three in one knife.

I've only had the endure. But I love it. So solid, durable, simple, smooth. But I also love sog, which puts me in the minority. I'm not a huge fan of assisted openers (though I have a few), but I can recommend the fielder (wood scale, g10 one looks tacky), twitch II, flash II. I got a fielder XL from sierratradingpost for $11 and it's nearly perfect fit and finish wise, and has become my go to folder. The manix is great, and the 110v version is surprisingly affordable (I know you said money is tight, and this isn't cheap, just comparitively speaking.

Overall, I like the endura best, then the manix in 110v, then aegis. But a different sog would be up there with the endura :tu:

(Patience is a virtue) You could start looking for such a knife and save some cash. ;)

In my experience I have both the manix 2 and the endura 4. I prefer the lock on the manix much better. In my experience the SOG knives have blade play. At least everyone that I've had. (4).

I think I'm going for an Endura 4. And thanks to a member here going to get one from him. The Endura seems like a well loved blade.

I have all three; my Manix is the older hollow grind, my Endura flat. I don't much care for the Aegis, most comfortable handle of the three but plenty of blade play and not really solid-feeling. I prefer the Manix to the Endura, even though I generally prefer flat grind to hollow... I expect I'd like the flat Manix even more.

The Endura is flat and lightweight; an awesome EDC knife if you appreciate the larger blade. Doubles as a defensive knife if that's what you are after as the tip strength of the saber ground one is good. It's a pry bar. I have carried mine for over 1000 days; it still gets pocket time when I have things like PM2's, Manix, flat ground Enduras, etc
