Working hours?
on: October 06, 2015, 06:47:58 PM
Hey guys!
RT and me were discussing different working times in different countries...
What is your work time? What's the average in your country?

I work from 7:25 to 17:10 o'clock. This is caused by the bus only driving every hour to my work. My contract says from 8 to 17.
In Germany it's common for office to start work at 8 o'clock, but recently it's slowly changing to 9.

I used to be 9 to 5, then it became 8:30 till 5, then it became 8 till 4 (all different companies). Now in theory it's 7:30 to 4:30 with an earlier finish on Fridays, but in reality it can be as early as a 5:30am start and as late as a 6:30pm finish. Every day is different.

I work 8 to 18, with an hour long lunch break... Like many here I'm supposed to work 42h and as long as someone is in the office during default office hours (9-12 and 13:30 to 17) I can be at work whenever I like.
Swiss Air Force though has office hours from 9 to 5

Uhhh...

I'm in school

830-245 on Monday and Wednesdays.
And 930-1215 on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

My work schedule is simple "when there is work to be done, you do it" lol

Workdays after school I clean bounce houses/water slides. Weekends I deliver them.

Now if I have to describe my jobs, I'm gonna get totally confused myself :ahhh

Job 1: Theoretically 8am to 12pm, but I can run errands all day long from when I get up to when I go to bed or not at all, so yeah.

Job 2: 7pm to 9pm Mon-Wed, plus some other stuff I do during the day which may take up to two hours

Job 3, which hasn't started yet, but it'll be another part-time long-term thingie, each Saturday 7am - 7pm, the commute's included in this.

Otherwise, the *normal* people usually work from 9am to 5pm, more and more often. Previously it was common to have 1st and 2nd shifts, but not anymore, it seems

Normal days are 08.00 to 16.00. from monday to friday. But i work my own chedules, so if i am on road, i might go on 6.00 to how long is needed, somedays up to 21.00. Sometimes saturdays if needed.

Some days I work for an hour, other days I work 14 to 16 hours.  I generally put in 20-30 hours a week on average, but at the cost of being on call 24/7.  I work in shipping, and deal with accidents when they happen, which means I could start working 14 hour days immediately after Whoey arrives from Spain (as happened last year) or I could get a phone call at 10pm on a Saturday evening to attend a container full of uranium that has been dropped.

When these sorts of incidents happen I could literally be working 16-20 hours a day until they are properly dealt with.  It makes it almost impossible to schedule things and I have wasted a lot of concert tickets and cancelled a lot of doctor/dentist etc appointments over the years as a result.

But then my job is far from ordinary around here....

6:30am to 3:00pm with a 30 minute lunch.

however, I can adjust that as needed, as long as my start time is between 6:00am and 8:00am.
if not, I take leave.
I also have the ability to work from home from time to time
If I can help, let me know

I have a trade background and work 6am-2pm. It's only 8 hours which goes really quick. I wouldn't mind working longer hours really.

Wish I could work 4 ten hour days and have every Friday off though lol.

But then we put in many hours working on our other projects and businesses.

This is also the generally accepted norm here.

I have a desk job doing reports and spreadsheets (MS Office stuff) for counterparts / partners in the USA or UK.  Luckily my working hours are 0700 - 1600; 1hr lunch break, M-F.  There's a 30-45min commute on both ends.

Considered as "regular" hours in Manila are 0800 - 1700 or 0900 - 1600 with M-F (if you're lucky) otherwise M-Sat, there's even 0800 - 1800 but that's M-F only.  If you're lucky to work for a US-based company then they'll follow a 45hrs a week schedule.

Officially it's 8:00 to 16:00, the company is going towards the 9:00 to 17:00 but I'm still pushing for a compromise of 7:30 to 15:30

I like his the best.

Seriously, I feel work hours in Asia is genuinely longer.  9-5 jobs are only found in the government jobs, and most jobs have much longer hours.

My hours are semi-flexible, 9-10 in the morning, but will last until whenever that day is over.  Sometime necessary business meeting or dinner will drag on late into the night, and sometimes I get to go home soon after 5.  Often time, my weekends are occupied with meetings/greetings/meals.

Most weeks I work 8:30am to 5:30pm M-F.  One week out of every five, I'm on call support, which is 7x24 coverage, and usually turns into a couple middle of the night phone calls during the week and glued to my laptop Saturday morning and possibly afternoon.

Alternating weeks of 7.30-4.00, and 9-5.30. With a 8.30-12.30 every second saturday.
And on top of that, roughly once a month a week of oncall so 24/7

0830 - 1600 Mon to Fri, I live where I work so am often up in the night or weekends seeing to something or other.

It's much better than when I was working in care like Zed - weekends, nights, 24 hour shifts, 36 hour shifts when no one turns up to take over - I don't miss that at all.
