A good part of my fixed blade collection. Photo Heavy.
on: October 22, 2015, 12:23:31 PM
I did not sleep all that well last night due to just being miserably sick. I am going to call in sick as well to work as I am in no shape or form capable of teaching teenagers today. I am however, capable of taking photos of something and posting them online here to keep my mind off of being generally miserable. Thus, you guys get to suffer another photo collection shoot, but this time, it is about the majority of my fixed blade collection. I say majority, because these are the ones I have stored upstairs and not in my fancy shmarmy display case in my living room. I have around another 15 or so fixed blades found downstairs. Come to think of it, I may have missed a few more items upstairs at that. So before I torture you with yet another photo expose, I have to say, I had some help. Both cats came up with me to help, and guard the goods from all intruders. Yeah lol, they liked that I sat on the floor with a nice comfy blanket for them to make comfortable...and to generally get in the way of my shooting sharp items at 4 am in the morning.

As you may see, I have a liking for fixed bladed things. A good assortment of fixed knives, survival knives, and machetes to be found here.

Enough ramblings, time for some photos...

I am here to get in the way...er...help.

Just trying to help...honest!

Even Gracy got into the action somewhat.

Yep, plenty of help this morning.

I think that needed a little straightening.

I like the machete knife  :)

You need a Crocodile Dundee knife  :)

Thanks Nate. I hope so as well. I will be calling in sick in an other half hour. Sent my supply instructions to the secretary at around 5 am. I couldn't sleep so may as well get the working part out of the way.

dks, I do have a huge Bowie with wooden handles that is about the size of the Dundee knife, not to mention plenty equally sized Rambo type hilarious survival knives.

Thanks.

No offence taken. I tend to buy things that catch my eye. Quite often that does not depend on the quality of an item. I also find sometimes I am pleasantly surprised at the quality of the cheaper stuff.

I think the top one is not really a saw for wood as it is for thin aircraft aluminum...but I could be wrong on that thought.

As for the rest, do you not know back-saws are cool looking.  :twak: :D

That is besides the point...imagine being attacked by a zombie...why, you could saw him in half on the up stroke after stabbing it.

May as well throw in those that I have in my living room curio cabinet.

Here is a set of six knives made locally by Herman Duerrschmied that I found from his recent widow who held a garage sale. This was not something I was expected to find. She didn't seem as enamored about them as I was, but did appear pleased I took such an interest in them. Heck, she even sold me one of two knives that he was making at the time of his passing. She sent them to Germany to be finished. His friend engraved both of them at the same time and sent them back.

My dads 1960's hunting knife.

BONUS:

A pair of what I think...ceremonial spear points from someplace in Africa. Mind you, I have no idea of their origins. I did however find them in a local garage sale back in the mid 90's. When asked what they were, the seller had no clue other than they were an unwanted gift from a traveling relative.

Back side showing construction.

Anyone with an idea on these, I would love to hear it. I have always wanted to find suitable shafts and hang them up somewhere.

Good thing zombies are all gooey, otherwise the knife might get stuck in there :dwts:

Usually I deal with zombies by having them look deep into my eyes; they recognise me as their master and then they sod off :D

Some weird looking shapes there. I wonder if those were meant to become users or rather pieces to exhibit craftsmanship

Ooh, lovely

firiki, users. He had a deal with a local shop to sell them. I recall looking at them and thinking they were very expensive. They were in the 300-400 dollar range if memory serves me right. His widow sold them to me at 100 dollars each.

They are mostly hunting knives and as such, some of those weird shapes would be good for skinning, etc.
