Mystery Vintage Farmer Knife
on: November 07, 2015, 10:38:50 PM

I was chatting to a gentleman at a flea market the other week and he asked me what I made of this its a farmer style knife but a very unusual tool set.

The blade has been sharpened and is a little short but appears to fit the knife very well ... at first we though it may be a replacement blade in a non Vic frame , the saw looked fine and the scales look pretty standard the short blade looks fine but there is a spacer inser rather than a tool which is odd.

The tang stamp on the blade suggests 1930's

Any info greatly received :)

I will try and get some more pics with the tools open

The only thing I can say is that I like this knife very much! In fact,  :D

I could also say I can solve mysteries by touching at an objet related to them and that you could send it over to me to give it a try but seriously, perhaps they just had to make the blade fit so as not to throw it away? Things were artisanal at the time, after all.

Similar knife in the Vic 1903 catalog. But I suspect the style was made well into the '30's or 40's. I think (?) that tang stamp is circa 1930's. Great find!

Nothing similar in my notes. Is that a spacer or a broken off blade thats been ground down?

Really cool knife! Whats the total lenght of it? I think it should be 100 mm.

For me it looks like original victorinox out of the farmer/peasant serie.

Its something between a Nr. 2/32  and a 1/34. The number 34 existed only in 112 mm, but has instead of the small blade a can opener.
