I know most of you prefer traditional folders, but here is a modern twist on a traditional knife... a Buck 112 Ranger Sport, black Cerakote coated, black G10 handles.  I have been planning on getting a 112 Ranger Sport, then Buck sent me the September Buck of the Month email.  So yeah, impulse buy  :ahhh   :tu:

A very hard to find model!   Way to go, Steve.

I had at first thought Way north Cutlery was a new manufacture of knives, then researching it was learned it is a GEC produced knife like Northfield.

I was and still am mesmerized by the differing designs of Sheep foot and Lamb foot blades.  If I have interrupted my studies correctly, the Lamb foot (A Sheffield design)  tapers the blade height from tang to tip slightly, making the blade height less before the round to the tip.   A Sheepfoot, is the same height from tang to the tip round.

That is a lovely shaped blade, unique handle and a GREAT catch!
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

Yes LC, that's my understanding of a lamb vs sheepsfoot.   Unsurprisingly a Ramsfoot flairs towards the tip.

Flairs, how?   Blade up toward the tip, down below the blade like a pruner?  Not heard of Ramsfoot until I read the Lambfoot article I found, and not had time to research😉

For the October Fixie Challenge, I thought it was time to locate an Eldridge, by Morakniv.

Small enough for pocket and light enough tho thick for neck carry (once I purchase new break away chain).

Found one problem, no index for blade orientation when in the sheath!!!

For now I added a additional grove indentation to the top of the handle for touch feel and colored the bottom groove present red for visible alert.

Sharp, and is Stainless Steel (?), awl other Moras I have are Carbon Steel.

Sorry, "widens" might be a better choice of word.  So edge to spine is narrowest near the pivot end and then gently widens as it goes towards the tip.  The exact reverse of the Lamb.

Thanks LC, I got one when they first came out and then foolishly sold it before I really appreciated the pattern. I've been trying to reacquire one ever since without paying an arm and a leg for one. I was able to work out a trade for this one that was reasonable.

Nothing fancy, stopped at a nearby farm store to get bird food. Checked out sporting goods section too and found these two with prices not to be ignored -

Yes, I am a sucker for marked down items, price written on package match pegged price, but not cash register system. Told new Sunday price and was quickly adjusted.

I did not have an orange 110 SS and I like the 684, a great fix blade with very similar design to to a 113 with same 420HC steel.  In fact fits perfectly in a 113 Sheath😁

I have been looking for one of these Dog Head KA-BAR-LO's for a long time, they don't come up too often. I lucked into an estate seller on Ebay that had two of them. I grabbed both,  I'll keep the best one and sell the other. It might be a hard choice

Should have them by mid week :woohoo:

My findings during the Ranger Challenge indicated that I really should try the first two generations of Bucklite due to the less-aggressive handle texture and finger grooves.    The handle material feels more solid, the texture is just enough to be grippy (and does NOT tear into my hand), and all around, you can tell this wasn't an "el cheapo" 112 like pretty much everything from the 442 on was. The knife fits my hand like a glove, not just plain awkward like the 112LT and Slim Ranger.

Despite the better build, it only gains two-tenths of an ounce, so pretty much negligible difference between new and old in terms of weight.   This will be my go-to 112 from now on. I am now beginning to wonder if I should've bought the second-gen 422 at the same time.
