Nice one Gareth!  Is the blade hollow or flat ground?  I like the rounded profile of the handle on the bolster end.

Flat ground with small secondary bevel.

I'm looking at this as being roughly equivalent to an Opinel.  It's twice the price, but also a more complicated knife. However it's all about being functional.

I guess you have to go to a No. 5 Opinel to be legal, don't you?  I would easily justify the extra cost for a back spring vs. friction.

Or you can pop the locking ring off a No.8.  However I've never been completely comfortable with a non-locking Opinel.  Not so much for using it, but more from pocketing it.  Fine if the friction is just right but if it loosens up at all.... :-\

Oh, I was thinking you were limited to a 3" blade, and that would put you at at most a No. 6. Good point about popping the ring off, and you could soak the joint to tighten it up again, but what a bother.

D'oh   you're right of course; a No6 keeps the blade under our "without good reason" three inch clause.

 I did say I don't carry them often. :D

What a beauty Steve.  I stop and look at my knives sometimes and wonder how many owners it will take for them to become this worn, or if they'll ever be used enough to get there.  Clearly it won't happen while they're in my possession, because no single knife I have will experience the wear this one has in my lifetime.

This one has some stories to tell.

I have the same thought om my knives . Clearly someone loved this knife and used it but didn't abuse it. It has a little blade play but still has gator snap to the spring. It looks to have always been sharpened properly throughout it's life. It is scary sharp  :ahhh

Yeah, awlthough now it's more of a Toothpick than a Lambsfoot.

My guess is that it's a knife that was owned by someone who, these days, would have a Stanley knife/box cutter.  Frequent, daily use with lots of sharpening.  At least that's the story I like to tell myself.

The handles are quite good. It seems that this was, indeed, a daily used tool for lots of tasks. Today, we have N different knives/tools and some never get used at awl. Despite their beauty and appeal, we tend to forget that they are tools and meant to be used (and some times abused), until they can no longer perform the tasks they're intended to, at which time they get replaced by a similar one.

Glad to see someone treating them as they deserve (no matter how hard it is for me to see a less than pristine tool).

 :D :D

Finally got around to taking pictures of the Spyderco's I picked up last month.

I have an original Delica that I've had for maybe 30 or so years.  Always found it to be, well, too delicate.  Bent the blade using it for prying (not the purpose, I know) but I finally got around to getting another as a I came across for a sale on a Delica 4.  It seems to be more in line with what I'd originally hoped to buy all those years ago.  I know I have the original Delica somewhere but I probably haven't seen it since we moved in 2005.  Will probably find it when we move in a year or two.

The Tenacious was also on sale so why not (well, that's not what the wife said).  Nice, sturdy and I do like a combo blade on a tool that I can carry.  Probably not that popular an opinion but I don't often carry more than one knife at a time at the moment.

:like:  Nice Spydies buggs.  I really need to add a couple to my collection someday.  It must be a good feeling to replace/upgrade a knife that you're so familiar with that's gone missing for so long.

Thank you gentlemen.   :hatsoff:

Someone on AAPK said these where made by Camillus and then shipped to Sheffield to be finished.  I have no idea if that is accurate but it is well made.  It's has a hefty, "chunky" feel in hand that is unexpected from a canoe.  The bone is thick and the blades are well ground to be nice and thin behind the edge as I like them. I rather like the clean look of the scales with no shield too.
