Picked up a couple in the last few months but haven't been able to get around to posting.

The Benchmade is from the summer, the Spyderco arrived this week.  Loving both at the moment.

So, I’d been sort of wanting a US-made OTF auto since autos became legal in PA a couple of years ago.  But given the prices and the fact that I was pretty sure it would be more of a toy than a tool I would really carry and use, I hadn’t picked one up.

Fast forward to a few weeks ago, and I ended up winning this Guardian Tactical GTX-025 in a drawing.

It’s a little smaller than I might prefer, and a double-edged dagger blade might not have been my first choice for blade shape and style.  But F&F is excellent, and the action is truly awesome.  Pocket clip is a single-screw affair set up for tip down RH carry only.

The aluminum handle seems to have just enough texture in the right places to provide a good grip, but not so much that it’s a pocket ripper.

The switch requires some force to operate, and also has a non-trivial travel distance.  Accordingly, it’s difficult to envision this knife accidentally opening in pocket.

The blade snaps open and closed with such authority that I decided to hold the business end of the closed knife against a piece of cardboard and push the button, fully expecting the blade to be driven through the cardboard.  To my surprise, the sharp point nicked the cardboard but failed to emerge on the other side, and I further discovered that the blade had been disengaged from the internal mechanism.  Carefully grabbing the blade and pulling it to the fully open position reset everything.  Further research revealed that this is a deliberately built-in safety feature.

Given the information in the above paragraphs, I would feel perfectly comfortable carrying this knife from a safety standpoint.  However, I expect the quick movement and distinctive sound of opening or closing would likely draw some (not necessarily positive) attention in public.  In terms of speed, I don’t think it is significantly faster than some of my manual flippers.  All things considered, then, I have no real plans to carry it, but it is my new favorite fidget toy.

I'd hesitate to carry that one, period. Anything double-edged is, according to AKTI, "profoundly disfavored" in Michigan.

Neat pick up, Steve!

Of course I was familiar with the sowbelly, but had not heard of a Bison Belly before.  Learn something new every day…

My guess is that "Bison Belly" is (for want of better term) a GEC-specific name for what every other knifemaker calls a sowbelly.

It sure does look good! Is it ebony?

Thanks fellas and yes Ebony.

Bison Belly is the name given to it by Charlie Waynorth Campagna being his SFO

I haven't been on in a while, but that hasn't deterred my knife-buying.  Recently, picked-up a 10th Anniversary Gerber 06 automatic in black.  Followed by a set of Cold Steel 4 Max variants.

Was scouring Ebay for Awl replacements for the 40th Anniversary / Garage #5. Did find an Arc awl, but found some FREE series awls that looked way better. In the process I found a TSA confiscation that I probably should of passed up, as was about the price of a new one except they were retired. Charged it...

The T4 arrived today and am quite surprised in how many tools are on one small package. Only thing missing is a can opener..  :ahhh

Will probably go through what sheaths I have remaining, perhaps ordering something. Material on pants pockets seem to get thinner, and while I may carry an SAK in my pocket this T4 has more things to rub holes into cheap pockets.

The T4 never really interested me. Am quite pleased to have one. Sad that TSA makes a lot of money on their confiscations...

Keep telling myself no more knives but they keep finding their way into my heart.

Classic this time (sorry Benchmade); wanted something I wouldn't feel bad about digging around with so went old school, Buck 110.  Sheath is lovely (made in Mexico) and has a wonderful leather smell.

Definitely a classic.  If you don’t mind the weight, lack of pocket clip, and 2HO/2HC, still a very viable carry 60+ years after its introduction.

I figure I can carry this and one of my Benchmades and not really notice I'm carrying two knives.

On a slightly odd note, I really like the weight to be completely honest.  I know from a modern knife perspective it's ridiculously heavy.  I've seen reviews talking about someone hiking might not want so "much weight" and I'm afraid I just chuckle a little bit.  No question there are a plethora of lightweight knives out there you won't even know you're carrying.  This thing is kind of like a Leatherman Signal, you could probably use it as a hammer in a pinch.
