Nail nic differences
on: November 10, 2015, 04:05:04 AM
Here are two SAKs I got today that are from roughly the same era.

however, the nail nic on the cap lifter is different on one compared to the other.

Got a Huntsman and a Spartan (or standard?) in today.  neither have toothpick or tweezers.
 both have

VICTORINOX      <----Small V
SWITZERLAND
STAINLESS
ROSTFREI

on the front and

VICTORIA
OFFICER
SUISSE

on the rear

and both have 5 turn cork screws and clip point small blades.

anyone with info on the differences in the nail nic, I would be very interested
If I can help, let me know

The nail nick difference is most likely just a standard manufacturing variation.

Judging by the lack of wire scraper on the caplifter, I would estimate that these would have been made c. late 1972/early 1973. 1974 is when they switch away from clip point blades and drop "Victoria" from the tang stamp. The very last of these have 4 turn corkscrews, so these predate the last Victoria models by a little bit. But not too much, since the scraper on the caplifter lasts well past the disappearance of the +PAT on the can opener in 1972 (patent expires in 1971).
