Cleaning a Spartan Lite
on: December 03, 2015, 06:49:52 PM
I just got a used Spartan Lite (Spartan with flashlight).  How does one clean one of these badboys?  I assume the standard warm water and soap bath is out.   ???

I brushed mine out with a M16 cleaning brush (toothbrush), then hit the inside of the the knife with some hand sanitizer and a Q-tip. Then wipe the blades with sanitizer. Let dry, wipe away any residue and oil.

Water does not damage the electronics, just remove the batteries first. The circuits are sealed in lacquer. I would avoid the soap, though. (Clean water and electronics are usually good friends anyway, as long as mr Electricity isn't invited.  ;) )

I clean all my Spartan/Huntsman Lites in an ultrasonic cleaner, submerged for 30-60min in soapy water. There's really nothing to damage. These knives don't have circuit boards with sensitive components like the Altimiter/Voyager/Traveller knives do, it's just an LED, some wire and batteries. Pull the batteries, clean with a much water and soap as it takes to get the gunk out, let dry and you'll be fine.

Haha, after cleaning in warm water, the flashlight is magically twice as bright! *

* Obviously not magic, I just didn't even think of how grimy the LED was.
