There's a couple of places in the UK that 'give' you a little pencil when you go shopping there,
All across the UK builders vans have these rolling around in the glove boxes/ash trays
But they are a little small for my hands  ::)
So...
I stuffed one in the end of some copper pipe,
then added a brass nut thingy to stop it rolling,
then added a magnet so I didn't keep loosing it

That worked ok, been using it for months  :tu:

True enough.......what I'm missing for most of my projects is a good scrapyard to source parts and materials!

For instance, I have a large diameter piece of metal pipe with the one end welded shut that I use like an oven in my forge when I do the heat treat, and that has a hole burnt through the side......

I do find a lot of rubbish to play with, if I had to buy it I probably wouldn't try

What to do with your old hoover when all the magic smoke escapes

Add some leftover PVC waste pipe

Yep we've made a cyclone  :D

Get a little pink friend to sit ontop

That seems to work

I sometimes wonder why I keep all this crap

After trying some leather-work for a sheath I decided I needed a proper press,
so …
Square up edge of leftover kitchen worktop

I think I need a new blade in my chop saw  ::)

Round over edges

Fit hinges

Hit metal parts with a big hammer  :D

Adjust metal bits

Jam a piece of 6.8mm drill in the end of the clamp  ;)

More or less sorted  :D

Thanks Guys  :salute:

From the Mora Club thread

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=50zASTVouyA

Thanks   :salute:

Made a button from a 4mm copper leather rivet and washer (on top of the steel at the back of the picture) with a piece of old leather belt  ;)

That works but its a bit of a tight fit

(The white thing in my hand is a belt covered with baking paper)

To be honest copper is a bit soft for this project and the edges are a little sharp
Would be nice little job for someone to make on a lathe   :tu:

As I follow some woodworking pages on facebook there seems to be a rash of "shop projects" in my suggested feed, which is fine, but lately I've noticed a lot of them are using the same tool fixings they are intending to build (IE tablesaw, drill press, scroll saw, etc) to build the same very diy fixings.

Given I have no space for a proper workshop it's very tempting to get one of those allinone multifunction setups for minor projects. (like this:)

There are a couple of solutions. Renting tools is fairly easy and many people (me included) have sporadic opportunities to use well equipped workshops, in my case my father's or grandfather's but they are 250 and 500 km away respectively. There is also a number of workshop clubs where you pay a membership fee to user their tools.

Or possibly the authors are just lazy, that's probably the more likely case.

Probably, it irks me that they are "fixing" a solution where you should not have the means to do it in that manner.

What you need is an old Shopsmith. The models from the 50's are almost indestructible and it is still possible to find parts. (At least it is on this side of the Big Pond.)
