How to do SAKwiki edits ... part one
on: December 10, 2015, 09:51:56 AM
Hello my dear SAKwiki editors, here's a little How to for an easier introduction to the SAKwiki software. :D

Log in, open the page you'd like to edit and either click the three points at the top to drop the Edit/Print menu...

or go to the bottom of the page and click Edit.

I hear that some members have had problems with the pop up menus so if you do, choose the bottom option.

Now you should be looking at a page like this

Paste the below code into it.

Quote
^{DIV(class="clearfix")}{img id=XXXX width=320 imalign=right link=tiki-browse_image.php?imageId=XXXX}INSERT TEXT HERE%%%NEW ROW%%%%%%NEW ROW AND SPACE{DIV}^

{BOX(bg=>#CCCCCC, width=>225px)}{maketoc}{BOX}

And replace the text from the original page to the new code. Also replace the XXXX in the new code with the ID for the main picture as underlined.

The Table of content box should also be changed to the one in the code below with the underlined text deleted.

Preview the changes you've made and if it looks like it should...

Write the reason why you did the edits ... and save the page ...

Done.

Simple, right. :D

Now to uploading pics to the gallery if needed.

There are specific galleries for each SAK size. And to make it easier for you, these galleries are already linked in the layers module to the right. See the small icon next to 1  2  3? That's it. :D

On the next page click Upload image ...

Fill out the form as described and select the image you'd like to upload. Do not upload from an URL, ever. The tikiwiki is a very fragile and messed up piece of software and for some reason that breaks the gallery. :facepalm:

Done.

Now all you have to do is copy the number for that image to the page you're editing. So in this case id is 3666 for the ALOX Solo stock pic.

Keep the pics to a maximal size under 1000px, preferably around 800x600 as the wiki doesn't auto resize nor shrink to fit and a 3500px pic might offer a lot of details but will be a problem to be viewed on most screens.

Questions? Hope not. :P

Oh, yeah, some menus might look different than in my pics as I'm an Admin there, but all of the functions you'd need should be available to you.

Excellent. Too bad I don't have more free time at the moment. But I'll see if I can be of any help.
You should seriously visit vicfan.com. All the hoopy froods are doing it.

Great instructions.

Question;

Will you assign us each a different section encki? Scratch that - you answered in the original thread.

Looking forward to getting stuck in.  :salute:

:salute: I'll need to tread lightly until I figure things out... n00b wouldn't want to make things worse :facepalm:

Question, how do we choose which page to edit? So far the ones I visited seemed OK, except the first page of Wenger Professionals (Other).

All the ones eith extra small pics like in my first pic or missing ones.

I think all the pages in the Related knives section of the Ranger are broken.

I see. We'll have to check every page separately, I mean there's not a list of broken links somewhere.

Fingers crossed  :ahhh

The revised pages have a slightly darker grey background on the header where the text and picture are located and a slightly different border. The table of contents also has a black title as opposed to red. A missing image or small image in the header area is another sign.  After looking through a few, you begin to see the differences easier.  Compare the Ranger to the page of some other models. You might run across older pages that already incorporate one of the changes, but check the code and see if the new format has already been used. Also, at the bottom of the page, there is a created by and last updated tag which should be within the last day or so.

Hope that helps.

The old pages are made as tables, and those easily break. The new code is just text with a positioned image. The ^ at the beginning and end of it create a box around the whole thing. It will work without it but as it is, it seperates it visually from the rest of the page.

I dropped the red text and part of the formatting of the table of content to keep the page simpler and avoid future conflicts.

Where would you like progress documented?  I finished up 93mm. Technician Plus doesn't have an image except the Victorinox logo so I resized it to a width of 50 because it looked terrible with a width of 320.  Let me know if you want it re-enlarged or if you want to know updates somewhere else.

Also, if anyone reading this has an image of a technician plus they wouldn't mind having posted, let me know.

Thanks.

Additionally, I have finished 100mm, although the Soldier's Knife 1891 has a different layout that I didn't know if you did on purpose.  There is also a link in the navigation area on the right to a 3 layer 100mm SAK even though there is nothing listed.

Alright, now back to my real job.  I'll try and update more later.

Is this allright?

http://sakwiki.com/tiki-index.php?page=Outdoorsman_Original

Looks good except you have two Table of Contents titles.  You can remove the original, longer one (underlined below).

{BOX(bg=>#CCCCCC, width=>225px)}{maketoc}{BOX}
{BOX(title="~~#FF0000:Table of Contents~~", bg=>#CCCCCC, width=>225px)}{maketoc(title="")}{BOX}

Finished the "Others" section at the bottom of the Victorinox group where appropriate.

Now really this time, back to my real work.  Probably.

Yes, I was saving that for later as a :pok: for more involvement, but yes, now finally more people can apply for the sakwiki badge. Just post a link to the page you edited in the request form. :cheers:

Victorinox 74mm all done.

And I'll leave the SwissBuck section to you.  A different format there.

Wenger "Others" category done.

Edit: Can you delete image 3676?  I accidentally uploaded the EVO 88 picture for the Pocket Toolchest.  I created new, appropriate pictures for those two.

Edit 2: Wenger 65mm 1 layer and 3 layer done.  2 layer is NOT done yet.
