2015 Limited Edition Alox Collectability??
on: December 21, 2015, 07:34:44 PM
I am thinking about picking up the 2015 Limited Edition Alox Classic, Cadet, and Pioneer for my collection.

I was just wondering it anyone knows if these are a good collecting item or did Victorinox make a billion of them?

I want them for my personal collection, but it would be nice if the value would go up over time.

Thanks for your 2 cents!!

They are as much of a limited edition as all of the Classic SD contest knives are. Victorinox produces them for a full year and then switches to the next colour/print. So not a fixed amount or max amount afaik.

Doubt the price will lower though.

I would think if you kept it NIB, it may appreciate over time, but over how much time is a guess.

Many of the colored alox issued in the 70's and 80's are bringing pretty good money on the auction site, even with no box and used.

Myself, I don't see these new issues being as collectible as the old ones. But I could be wrong too. Only time will tell.

While not made in huge numbers, there are quite a few out there. If you're wanting to use one, I'd get a spare to keep tucked away, and keep one as a user.

I've been waiting (hoping) for the alox buying bubble to burst and see prices come back down, but that doesn't seem to be happening. At least not yet. There seems to be a few collectors out there who have the extra monies to spend, driving up cost.

Thanks for the info.

I thought the Blue looked nice. Then the hook was set. I bought all 3. This is my first Limited Edition set.  Then I started thinking maybe I would collect these if they are indeed "Limited Editions". There does seem to be a lot of them out there, so I guess I will just enjoy these in my small collection.

Be careful of the alox pox though. This vicious disease will cause your small collection to quite rapidly blossom into a barely controllable expansion. It really is a remarkable phenomenon.

And worse still, are the many enablers of this curse upon man who dwell on these forums.

I'm only grateful you can't get T&T or scissors with alox. It's bad enough with a light dose of aloxia (and I really like the 2015 blue but I've only succumbed to a Cadet so far ...) I dread to think how bad it could get  :sa:

I have been infected. I bought the Black, Silver, and Red Alox MiniChamps last month and now the 2015 Limited Edition Alox.

I am in BIG trouble with no foreseen help in sight!!

With regard to collectibility, it is unlikely that there will ever be another "2015" Alox model, so I would expect them to go up in value. I am sure they will be available for a few more years, from dealers, but at some point they will run out of them.

I doubt these will be that rare for a long time with so many being made.
Would be nice if they used blade engraving for 2016 instead of the poor text on the rear panel.
It's a good start but time will tell if they ever become collectible.

One thing.... You can't have a full set unless you get 2015 as well
