Kids here in SoCal were obsessed with the Uke.  I saw plenty of kids carrying them around and there'd be jam session in random places.

'Mad Jack' Mytton was a Regency sportsman and wastrel (that's probably redundant). He once rode a bear into a dining room, but got a bit ambitious with the spurs. The bear returned the favor and proceeded to chew up Mytton pretty thoroughly.
