Fire, Steak and whiskey, all necessities to me If you're worried about storage and transport fear not, just put one of these in your kit and strap a crate of whiskey on each side, a bit of training to get her to follow you through the wilderness and you'll be sorted!(Image removed from quote.)

any camping yet Ponch?
I camp quite a lot but usually only for one/two nights while im walking so it's just about travelling light. Change of clothes, lightweight towel, waterbottle, sleeping bag, tent, roll mat, alcohol, flapjacks and jerky and then essential stuff like torch, lighter, multi/saks/ducktape and rope (now paracord since i discovered its so cheap). Of course this in England where nothng is 'essential' as you are never more than half an hour from civilisation (and pubs....) as long as you know where you are. I've always got my phone on me so its just a case of looking on the gprs if desperately need something. If i was going hiking somewhere i was unlikely to be close to villages/towns then i'd totally rethink what i would take.
plus Mr. Canterbury has his own site (shameless plug coming here) and forum with lots and lots of great vid's.
