Elon Musk tweeted. Apparently they’re currently putting out a firmware update for the Model 3’s that will “improve braking distance by roughly 20 feet” for heavy braking circumstances.

And 20 feet less should bring it’s stopping distance down to its class average.
Let’s wait for word from consumer reports.

The issue with Tesla is that they seem to be expecting the consumer to do the Beta testing. Other companies do that too, occasionally, but they appear  to do it every time...   and on such expensive cars

and, as pointed out previously, Fiat Chrysler recalls 4.8 Million     :ahhh   Vehicles :

http://money.cnn.com/2018/05/25/autos/fca-recall-cruise-control/index.html

"Fiat Chrysler is recalling 4.8 million vehicles over an issue that could prevent drivers from turning off cruise control.
Only one incident related to the malfunction has been reported to Fiat Chrysler (FCAU), and there are no reported injuries.

The issue can be triggered when the car accelerates while operating under cruise control, which it might do in order to maintain its speed while climbing a hill, the company said. This could potentially cause a short circuit."

I remember when [insert practically any car maker here] didn’t recall its cars with a fatal safety problem in time to prevent deaths, only after the lawsuits started.

Wow, brings it down to F150 territory.  :P I still don't believe the electronics have as much to do with the braking performance as the hardware, as most of the system is hardware, not software. The ABS system could be faulty, but the car should stop in a reasonable distance, even without it. People don't  have to learn proper hard braking technique anymore because of ABS, now you can just mash the brakes to the floor and let the car do the rest. Takes all the skill out of it.

The Tesla engineers probably didn't account for the fact that the car would need bigger brakes than a conventional sedan, which weighs on average 800 pounds less, in order to stop in the same distance and be competitive with lighter weight cars. It ain't software.  :P

Tesla admitted they have a problem.  Tesla is not above criticism. Neither is fiat .
