Watch help please

A Very good friend of mine has given me a Seiko Watch . He's a bit of a collector and new this would interest me with my nautical lifestyle and I'm really pleased with it . What I'd like is a bit of info about it and some help on why the bezel sticks . I dont know anything about watches beyond the obvious .
 Could you please tell me anything about it ? The markings on the back are  '  A     Stainless steel Seiko 7002-1000 A1 Scuba Diver's 6N0074 '


On the front is  ' Seiko Automatic 150m   Water Resist '

Bezel removed , should there be a ball bearing and spring in there ? Looking closely it looks like a ball bearing is stuck in the hole

Somehow the watch can be dated from that number. I'll see if I can find out how.

I've watched a couple of those on ebay.  They look real nice. 

Eddie has one if I remember correctly so hopefully he will know a bit more about it.

Your friend has good tastes.....classic 7002. That ball bearing is there for the bidirectional bezel I believe, so it can rotate both ways and 'click'. *MAKE SURE YOU DON'T LOSE IT!*

A problem with this one was a missing bezel click-ball, a common problem for these watches, as once the bezel is prised off, there is little stopping the ball from falling out if you're not expecting it. Without a click-ball, the bezel just spins freely rather than rotating with a firm click. As for the last pic...I believe that's just a ding. Here's some basic info on the 7002 to keep you busy:

The cal. 7002 movement has 17J and runs at 21,600 bph. It's non-hacking and has a quickset date-only calendar mechanism.

By the late 1980s, Seiko has changed the case design of the divers from the earlier large cushion shape to a slimmed-down case like we see today in the SKX007/173s.

When the 7002 divers replaced the 6309s, they inherited the small case design from the 6309-7290. The 7002s all have rectangular markers.

There are several different variations of the 7002 divers:

    * The 7002-7000 and 7002-7009 seem to be identical, with the difference being only the marketing regional code at the end of the case number (0 and 9). These 2 are both 150m divers. Their inscription says "WATER 150m RESIST" on the dial.

    * The 7002-7001 is almost identical to the 2 above but the dial has the line "17 Jewels" added underneath "WATER 150m RESIST."

    * The 7002-700A is a 150m diver with a blue-and-red bezel. The 7002-700J, according to Shawn Taylor/shawn, is another variant -- "Japan only market version with '17 jewels' on dial, but with red/blue bezel."

    * The 7002-7039 seems to be the first "low-end" diver model that got its water resistance rating promoted to 200m. While the 150m 7002 divers have bi-directional bezels with 60 clicks (the traditional design), the new 200m 7002-7039 has a uni-directional locking bezel with 120 clicks. The dial says "DIVER'S 200m." The new features introduced in this diver (200m water resistance, uni-directional bezel with 120 clicks as well as the dial inscription) will carry on in the 7S26 models that succeed the 7002.

It's always possible for you to send it to a watchmaker to have it fully restored/modded. Bill Yao over at MKII or Jak at IWW should be able to help if you want to go this route.
